General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

To be fair, it's something to be ashamed of.

Help, help, I'm being repressed!

Why is she even still a public figure? She trashed the economy and doubled mortgages for millions. She'd do best to keep a low profile.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 7 months ago (2 children)

She has unlimited confidence that she's the second coming of Thatcher.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago (2 children)

She lacks Thatchers charisma

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

She lacks everything that could possibly make her a successful politician, or even a politician at all. I'm sure she only got as far as she did as Doris had to surround himself with so many inept people to make himself not look so bad. Completely dillusional that woman!

And her perm and handbag.

Still waiting on all those pork markets.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Or for the resolution of the disgraceful cheese situation.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Careful, Cameron may get ideas.

They should have booked the cabbage to keynote instead of her.

Why does this idiot still have a mic?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago

Because we are here, discussing this idiot.

I really hope she just disappears after the election. As annoying as she is now, at least she’s making Labour’s point that the Tory’s are a shitshow

[–] Hominine 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

People don't want to admit they're Liz Truss.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Most people aren't Liz Truss.

I'll have you know I'm well lustrous

More like the generally right-wing British public no longer want to be associated with the corrupt scum that are the Tory party.

It's pretty sad when the people that would support you by default have grown sick of you.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

They UK public aren't that right wing. It's just FPTP. The left is spread over more parties. It's why UKIP/Reform drag the Consecutives round. They can't afford the vote splitting. We aren't as badly two party as the US, so Conservatives playing the US Republican playbook to keep their nutters happy, is just destorying them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

When you actually talk to people most people are pretty middle of the road left of center or right of center. So parties should be pretty close to the center if they want votes as you say going after the extreme fringe groups only alienates everyone else.

The Tory strategists know this, which is why they keep trying to pull the conservatives back to the center, but the likes of 30p, and Mog refuse to get the message.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

By definition the majority will be at the centre. Where the centre is different by county of course.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

That's not how politics works the center is the moderate.

If everyone in the country is a Nazi the center is not the average the center is the moderate. By definition not there for the average.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

You ask those Nazis where the centre is. Their centre won't be ours. When talk about the centre, it will be their's they are taking about.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 7 months ago

We'll see if that is true at the election won't we.

Speaking of secrets, still wearing that necklace eh Liz?

honestly this is why im skeptical of all the polling if labour is just being tory lite they why wouldn't tories just vote tory

[–] [email protected] 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

People just call labour that because they want them to be a socialist party. I would like them to be as well because I think that's the direction society needs to move in but unfortunately they are not socialist. Doesn't mean however that they are like the conservatives. That are just left of center.

That's still a massive improvement, if only because they are competent. We can look at societal change in the future, but right now I'll settle for effective governance. It will be nice to go through a week without having to hear about 16 different scandals.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago

They are not hiding. And if saying you're a is unacceptable at school and/or work, you really are in need of some deep self-reflection.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

I imagine why they won't admit it is because they aren't.

[–] kaffiene 2 points 7 months ago

Well, looking at Liz, does this seem surprising?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

The british public are pretty conservative, but the tory party are a fucking wrecking ball and no conservative should vote conservative if they want to conserve things.
