Its just meant to be absurd, I notice a lot of Lemmings digging for a deeper meaning that isn't there. If that image+caption doesn't make you grin immediately Farside may just not be your thing.

Hello fellow Far Side fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.
The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist). This is top-tier The Far Side content. Everybody seems to remember the stuff with animals acting like humans, but this is the sort of thing that I remember most fondly.

It's pure absurdism. The guy's brain just works different. Some of it's genius, some is quirky, and some is like this.

I don’t think you are, really.
There are a lot of references to stuff people in the 80s and 90s would be familiar with. But a lot is just absurd as well.
I think this one is more on the absurd end of the spectrum.
This reminds me of the cross-eyed glasses in The Jerk
