Note that 2 stars at this point makes more impact than 1 star. A spike a one star tells people "some drama is going on that it getting the app review bombed. Probably doesn't matter to me." More 2 stars is better.

Wouldn't most people just look at the rating average itself for the time being, rather than go through the individual reviews?
Though even if they do the latter, leaving a 1-star review with a well-written and concise explanation about why it scores so low would alleviate the issue of people dismissing it as meaningless drama.
People look at the graph at the top. They don't read reviews, they see a natural and even distribution of 3s 4s and 5s, almost no 2s, and a suspicious spike of 1s.
From what I've seen, a spike at 1 and 5 star reviews isn't all that suspicious. A lot of people treat the star rating system as a like/dislike system, where 5 is a like, and 1 is a dislike. Of course, there's the variation in between, but the majority of reviews fall under the extremes, for any app.
Like for example, this is the google play store rating for facebook and instagram respectively. They spike at 1-star and 5-star, and it's not out of the ordinary:
That's what I did but it's hard to even justify 2 stars. I'll give them a slight notch for three content they do have at the moment/ for the interim.
At least I'm running it with revanced and only dir super specific niche subreddits that haven't transferred over - I'm no longer commenting or providing content.
It doesn't deserve 1 let alone 2 stars, drama or otherwise.
2.9 for me. Apparently the rating you see is based on ratings by people in your region using a similar device to you, which I guess explains why everyone's is different.
Just had a look, shows as 2.9 for me too.
Besides how dirty all of the other decisions made during this whole fiasco were... It's bizarre they didn't offer to buy Apollo or RIF. I feel like it's well known that the Reddit app sucks ass. Pay someone who developed a good app and put ads on it. Then merge the apps.
But that would involve spez not being insanely stubborn.
Reddit is not interested in having a "good" app (as viewed from the perspective of the users). Reddit wants an app that collects as much data, and generates as much revenue, as possible. Those goals are sometimes contradictory to what normal users want.
They already did that with Alien blue, and you see how that went...
I noticed the age rating on the app is wrong too - it's set to Parental Guidance, when there are so many subs with profanity and worse not set to NSFW.
Definitely needs flagging.
Mine says mature 17+, that's interesting.
Maybe it depends on where you are, I'm in UK - still says Parental Guidance for me on the Play Store app!
Sadly still 4.8 on App Store
According to this Reddit post, someone is spamming the Reddit app with fake 5-star reviews on the App Store.
Tf? It's a horrible app. How tf did it get 4.8 stars?
App store rating (Rating: 4.8 - 2.66M votes): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/reddit/id1064216828
Play store rating (Rating: 3.6 - 2.88M votes): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.reddit.frontpage&hl=en_US&gl=US
TikTok and Instagram are just as highly rated despite both having quite user hostile UX.
These companies probably do something to skew reviews, like showing the rating dialog only to very active users.
I just went through the reviews it showed me since Saturday, and most of those are one and two stars. I saw a five star one that said ‘ouch my penis hurts’ and another that said ‘koolaid is good, I like the purple’. Both of those got reported.
It doesn’t show recent ratings though, but it has gone down to a 4.7 since you posted this.
4.8 out of 10, right? Right?
There are lots of negative reviews but have five stars attached. I don’t get it.
As someone else said, it smells bot-ty
Rated worse than truth social lol
That's actually not surprising. Truth Social is populated almost exclusively with, and rated almost exclusively by, neonazis. It's their bigoted safe space - they put out 5-star ratings like their cult leader puts out dog whistles.
3.0 for me, but one of the frequently referenced key phrases in the reviews (listed as "review topics" you can select) is the phrase "absolute garbage" and ngl I kinda love that
I did that last month and also clicked 'yes' to "was this review helpful?" to all 1 and 2-starred reviews.
Now down to 2.9
Showing 3.2 for me right now, so someone must be deleting the bad reviews, or they've got an bot army giving it 5 stars.
2.9 stars on Play Store for my demographics!
Remember to promote Lemmy in your reviews!
It's currently 2.9 stars on my Playstore. I've given it one star and a scathing review. Thanks for the heads-up. I hadn't thought about changing my review when I uninstalled it a couple of weeks ago.
In Norway or shows up as 3.1 on Play Store. It was 3.3 a week ago!
3.8 for Türkiye!
Thanks for the heads up. Gave it one star to bring that average down on the iOS App Store.
4.4 on my store, regardless I give him 1 star, which they don't even deserve.
Temu is more popular now.
It was 2.2, but it looks like they either bought reviews, or the Play Store mitigates brigade reviews.
4.3 for me, sadly it is likely lost cause on my region.
Remember to promote Lemmy in your reviews!
It’s 4.9 for me...
Play Store? On the iOS AppStore it has insanely good ratings for some reason. Like way better than they should be even without the API drama.
It's 3.0 ⭐ for me.
3 is still too high imho. I'd rate the Reddit app as a 2/5. Usable if you have to but not a particularly great experience.
It's on 4.2 for me
Report the scam/ fake reviews. There's plenty of nonsense 5 star reviews that they are botting/ pushing.
Varies by region
I would, but I gave it a 1 star review years ago.
