But are they ? I posted a comment a couple of days ago via lemmy.world on a 'remotely hosted' community, and then viewed the same post via its 'native' instance, and my comment never showed up, even days later.

From a process and safety point of view, it looks like everything happened exactly as expected. The fuel usage imbalance generated a EICAS message, they ran through the QRH for a fuel imbalance, which was to shut that engine down. At that point, they could no longer continue to their destination, as they had no engine redundancies left, so they diverted back to Auckland, and landed safely.

Unfortunate for the passengers, but it's exactly what the pilots should have done in that situation.
