The day began with a dramatic twist: the unexpected arrival of the younger Biden, who has repeatedly offered to testify publicly in the impeachment inquiry but refused to be interviewed behind closed doors, in the Oversight Committee’s hearing room. Democrats and Republicans immediately began bickering about whether to allow him to be heard.

the fact that he showed up by surprise, and all the GOP reps could do is keep bitching that he refused to show up was hilarious enough, but the fact that the Dem reps kept saying, "he's right here, right now; ask him your questions!" and they refused and just kept whining proved how absolutely full of shit they are. but watching hunter walk out right as MTG was about to start blathering and then watching her simply melt down is something i'll remember forever. The problem was that he showed up with his clothes on and they just wanted a live penis show.

OMG, so MGT trying to introduce new "evidence", and Raskin objecting because he didn't want her to introduce porn as evidence, and she says, "It's not porn" and he snaps back, "Well, you're the expert." LMAO!

Leagues of intelligence beyond Greene. Must have been so rewarding as he watched her walk right into that one face first.

They made such a big deal about how “he didn’t show up”.

It’s beyond me how none of them thought that he wouldn’t show up to show them up at the most inconvenient, for them, point in time.

Like you can tell, whoever is running that show is only thinking in five minute increments. And Hunter Biden, whoever is advising him, has next season already in mind.

I was actually shocked that this sort of stunt by Biden had not already been planned for. And that their Johnny on the Spot, fake it till we make it was basically a Jerry Springer episode.

They made such fools of themselves that day. That could not have gone better for the Democrats.

Whoever planned that is a genius

There is just no rule of law here. US legislature only gets to act like a courtroom when an elected official is being impeached. Hunter is not and has never been an elected official.

The subpoena was issued prior to the inquiry being "official". So this non-official committee issued a non-official subpoena, but now that they're an official committee they're going to hold him in contempt? Pfft....

[–] [email protected] 29 points 8 months ago

Yeah, and hold him in contempt even though he showed up and was willing to answer questions, so long as the questioning was done in public, so that he wouldn't be subject to selective leaks and quote mining.

A Republican-run congress is just a circus.

They know it doesn't matter. A criminal contempt citation has to be taken up by the justice department and then tried before a judge.

That's not going to happen with this shit:

“You are the epitome of white privilege, coming into the Oversight Committee, spitting in our face, ignoring a congressional subpoena to be deposed,” Ms. Mace said to Mr. Biden as he sat in the audience. “What are you afraid of? You have no balls.”

[–] [email protected] 17 points 8 months ago

You are the epitome of white privilege,

lmao, now they admit it exists.

“We will not provide Hunter Biden with special treatment because of his last name,” said Representative James R. Comer, Republican of Kentucky and chairman of the oversight panel.

Are you kidding me? Lol. There's this guy Republicans love who lives only on special treatment - this guy no Republican can get down on their knees fast enough to service - this guy who is so into himself who cries like a baby if someone doesn't give him the special treatment he wants - and they made him their leader.

Special treatment for younger Biden. Get the fuck out of here Comer.

Comer is a hores's ass.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Two House committees voted on Wednesday along party lines to hold Hunter Biden, the president’s son, in contempt of Congress, hours after he surprised Republicans by appearing unannounced on Capitol Hill, prompting a partisan free-for-all.

The day began with a dramatic twist: the unexpected arrival of the younger Biden, who has repeatedly offered to testify publicly in the impeachment inquiry but refused to be interviewed behind closed doors, in the Oversight Committee’s hearing room.

The exchange pitted some of the staunchest supporters of former President Donald J. Trump against the son of his successor and chief political rival, underscoring the bitter polarization that is driving the impeachment investigation.

As Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican of Georgia, was beginning to lecture Mr. Biden, he and his entourage left the room just minutes after arriving, trailed by a gaggle of journalists who had gathered to watch the G.O.P.’s latest move.

Republicans are hunting for evidence that his father was inappropriately involved in his foreign business dealings, and are working to build a case for charging the president with bribery and corruption, but have so far turned up no proof of either.

Outside the Oversight Committee room, a circuslike atmosphere greeted Mr. Biden and his legal entourage as they made their way out of the meeting, with a throng of news cameras jostling for position and journalists shouting questions.

The original article contains 1,171 words, the summary contains 226 words. Saved 81%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

Hunter: "Hello. Hello! Anyone home? I'm here. Did you want to talk to me? Hello?"
