Welcome to /c/tumblr, a place for all your tumblr screenshots and news.

Our Rules:

  1. Keep it civil. We're all people here. Be respectful to one another.

  2. No sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia or any other flavor of bigotry. I should not need to explain this one.

  3. Must be tumblr related. This one is kind of a given.

  4. Try not to repost anything posted within the past month. Beyond that, go for it. Not everyone is on every site all the time.

  5. No unnecessary negativity. Just because you don't like a thing doesn't mean that you need to spend the entire comment section complaining about said thing. Just downvote and move on.

This is just Gardiner's sign list of Egyptian Hieroglyphics A1-B2 with a couple of repeats thrown in at the end. You've thrown a vocabulary list at us.

A tale as old as the pyramids.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 year ago

It's origins are lost to time

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

You've lost me

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure J and W aren't in the Latin alphabet.

That's not the curse of Caesar, it's the curse of William.

SPQR is on point

It's not vocabulary. Hieroglyphics are an alphabet. What a smarty pants dumb dumb that first replier is.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 1 year ago (2 children)

akshually, hieroglyphics use logographic, syllabic, and alphabetical elements to form a logography which can be used as an abjad

Stop seducing me, I'm a married man.

This commenter heiroglyphs!

In many texts, writers play with different or unusual ways of sounding out words perhaps to make the visual representation better. Ugh. Here's a link if you're interested in learning more

sadly no! i just paraphrased the wikipedia description. however i did have a hunch that i was correct.

If you're going to be pedantic, at least be correct.

Fine, fine, but it's (mostly) not words like people used to think and the screenshot implied.

Hate to be that guy, but Caesar wouldn't have known the letters J, U and W

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There was no J in Caesars alphabet.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

also no u and no w
