What?

American military escorting American aid isn't a military action against Israel

Israel claims they can't let aid trucks in because Hamas will steal it.

American escort means Israel can't use that excuse, and if Israel attacks it, they'd be attacking the American military.

That isn't a military action against Israel in any way shape and form.

Israel apologized for the attack, saying that the USS Liberty had been attacked in error after being mistaken for an Egyptian ship.[5] Both the Israeli and U.S. governments conducted inquiries and issued reports that concluded the attack was a mistake due to Israeli confusion about the ship's identity.[6] Others, including survivors of the attack, have rejected these conclusions and maintain that the attack was deliberate.[7][8]

In May 1968, the Israeli government paid US$3.32 million (equivalent to US$28 million in 2022) to the U.S. government in compensation for the families of the 34 men killed in the attack. In March 1969, Israel paid a further $3.57 million ($28.5 million in 2022) to the men who had been wounded. In December 1980, it agreed to pay $6 million ($21.3 million in 2022) as the final settlement for material damage to the ship plus 13 years of interest

From your source.

It is misinformation to claim they faced no punishment. They accepted blame and paid retribution.

I'm not going to comment on if the compensation is appropriate to the crime.

2002, Captain Ward Boston, JAGC, U.S. Navy, senior counsel for the Court of Inquiry, said that the Court of Inquiry's findings were intended to cover up what was a deliberate attack by Israel on a ship that the Israelis knew to be American.

How does that challenge what I said?

[–] Linkerbaan -2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

You say they accepted blame. This is clearly false. They lied.

They objectively paid a sum of over 60 million in today's value for 1. The killed soldiers, 2. The wounded soldiers, and 3. The damaged materials.

It is objectively false to claim they suffered no consequences.

The argument for escorting aid in is because Israel will attack it... So what is the logical outcome of Israel attacking a US guarded convoy?

We are not going to put our people in that situation.

That still wouldn't be a military action against Israel, and no American troops would be in Israel territory.

What you're saying is that Israel would view preventing their genocide against Palestinians as an attack on them and then be "forced" to attack the US troops...

Israel would have to decide if they want to attack US military members to stop aid.

I'm not talking about hiding one soldier in a crate for a "gotcha". I mean a loud and proud military escort of aid. Something that is 100% normal regardless of it's a war zone or not.

I've spent 6 months of my life doing exactly this, lots more doing other stuff in the military.

I know what I'm talking about.

Not to mention, by your logic that would make Bidens plan to build a single pier over two months a military action as well...
