At what point to left-leaning states governors start building up their own militias?
I'm asking this as a Canadian, I honestly don't know what the process is vis a vis state militia vs federal military.
Up until recently I felt like at a certain point, there were lines that the military would not cross regarding Trump orders. But now I'm kind of terrified that they really haven't pushed back at all, meaning if it comes down to it, it's all going to up to the individual states.
I've already written my governer to ask to be on a mailing list for any state sponsored militias. I also said that he should very seriously entertain the notion of filing charges against Trump, Musk, Vance, and all of their cabinet and appointees and court nominations for Treason. Treason can be filed at both the state and federal level, and there have been a number of successful convictions of treason at the state level.
More importantly, it saddles trump and his cronies with charges that will make it justified for both state and federal militias to remove them from power by any means necessary. At that point just deputize members of your state militia, and they will have to take an oath to protect the nation from all enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC. They now have legal protections backed by the charges filed by the state. Now you fund those militia's and give them military kit, and refuse to cooperate with federal officials until a new election has been held and trump has been removed from power.
This is a fucking war, and the victors will write the history of it. The most important part is that facism and all of its supporters lose, and suffer the full consequences for their actions.
It doesn't matter what you do to republicans now, just do it swiftly and severly, and the next president can pardon you and tie up the loop holes.
The same tactics that facists are using to destroy the country CAN also be used to save it. We just have to act with strength and conviction.
State militias already exist, we call them "National Guard"
Well not exactly. The Executive branch is the top authority for the National Guard. If Trump wants to send the California National Guard to the Texas border with Mexico he can.
The closest analogue to a militia would be the California Highway Patrol. Trump can't command them to do shit about fuck. However they're not really on par as far as logistics and material. Considering they don't have an airforce, or any appreciable armor assets.
Technically yes. But if the Governor refuses things get interesting. And in a National Guard unit they're far more likely to side with the Governor than the President.
Yep it would be another constitutional crisis
Which nobody would even be contemplating without the first constitutional crisis going on.
It's crisis all the way down
Yup
I didn't know that. You sure are a correct horse battery staple, thanks
I couldn't justify putting correct in my username on Lemmy. But I loved the reference too much not to use it, so here I am, a less secure truncated version of a better password.
That's fair enough, it would seem like hubris to the uninitiated. Don't tell the feds but that's my SSD encryption phrase lmfao
😂
I mean it's on Lemmy and defederated so they know..... There's no deleting anything from here. Act accordingly
