Shelves that held bottles of Kentucky bourbon, Jack Daniels whiskey and Bacardi rum are sitting empty at government-run liquor stores in B.C. Sunday – where bottles of booze have been replaced with signs saying, ‘Buy Canadian Instead.’
The move follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s executive order that imposed 25 per cent tariffs on Canadian goods.
Premier David Eby, in response, pledged to pull American liquor off the shelves and said provincial stores will stop purchasing it. The premiers of Ontario and Quebec have done the same.
The Jack Daniels and Bacardi really aren't a loss to anyone. You are all better off without them.
Kentucky Burbon though:
Meh, Irish Whiskey and Scotch are still available. The loss will be forgotten over a single glass.
I can appreciate a good glass of whiskey or scotch but prefer burbon if given a choice. Cheers!
Holy shit it’s gonna be like traveling with blue jeans in the 80s all over again. Isolationism sucks :(
Bourbon is appellation protected - it's all from Kentucky. That's the reason Jack Daniels is "Tennessee Whiskey".
Common misconception! There are rules when it comes to making bourbon, but location isn't one of them. Check out Koval bourbon from Illinois, and I'm sure there's plenty of good stuff coming out of Oregon and California.
Edit: It does have to be made in the US, not a specific state or county.
I bought a freshly dumped bourbon barrel from Woodinville Whiskey in Oregon.
Contrary to popular belief, bourbon may be made anywhere within the US:

“Tennessee Whiskey” has its own standards, most notably that it should be from Tennessee:

Is there any ill that fireball can't cure?
I think it causes more ills than it could ever cure.
Diabetes
Ahaha, my thoughts exactly. One of the best parts about Biden winning, for me at least, was ending my embargo of bourbon.
