Only because they are a puppet, look at whose pulling the strings. (The right wing progaganda networks)
“They can’t help it, only the 1% have agency” isn’t going to ring true with anyone who’s actually been assaulted for using the ‘wrong’ bathroom.
"Puppet" creates exactly this misunderstanding.
It's more like, "they are operating off of misinformation to which their behavior is a reasonable response". They are being misdirected so that they choose to use their agency to do this shitty thing, because their misunderstanding makes it look like a good thing.
It does feel like letting them off the hook, but punishment doesn't create allies. This way of approaching it creates a very real possibility of them switching sides, and doing so genuinely.
Lemmy is small enough, and your moniker unique enough, I keep noticing your comments and nodding my head yes. If you're ever in Seattle, let's go bowling or something.
You can go to their account and favorite them if you want to follow what they've been talking about. I just started using the feature like a couple weeks ago. I have to resist the urge to go upvote someone's old comments.
That option isn't visible on my desktop screen... I just check their profile once in a while. Besides, if I pick a favorite, wouldn't everyone else's feelings be hurt?
