People actually hate these things?

I'm confused too, self checkout is the best thing ever, no social interaction and pretty much equally fast, while allowing for more checkouts in the same amt of space. Though tbf only if done properly. One store here started having them like 10 years ago and there was like a 10% chance each item that you'd have to call over an employee bc the scale didn't work. Haven't had any problems with the ones i encountered recently.

All the self-checkouts in Dutch supermarkets have handheld barcode scanners you take into the store with you, and it's GREAT.

At Sam’s here in the US, you can use their app to scan your items and pay. It’s so much more convenient.

Same here in Sweden. I never go to the regular checkouts because it is annoying to queue. Just scan everything while shopping. Put the scanner back, pay and leave.

Yeah, we've got those in Tesco and it's by far the quickest way to shop. Could even do with a super-express checkout just for those so I don't have to queue at all with the people who inexplicably want to scan a massive trolley of stuff really slowly at the regular self checkout.

Also, is your username a Tolkien reference?

People who can't figure easy things out or are scared of electronics/anything newer than a butter churn sure are.

When do we get the employee discount for doing their work?

[–] sturmblast 3 points 1 year ago (3 children)

If you stand in line for 35 minutes with 20 angry folks waiting for the one dude to learn how the self checkout works ...... yea

[–] Skellybones 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Kinda the opposite for me really the space is always open and is quicker then waiting in line for the cashier

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That's not self-checkout's fault. I don't hate self-checkout. I hate idiots.

[–] sturmblast 1 points 1 year ago

True, but the user experience on those things is terrible.. so.. I dunno it kind of cuts both ways if you ask me.
