Are tankies saying that, though? I know Abby Martin’s stance is against Russian imperialism while acknowledging that the US has a larger roll in this and that Ukraine isn’t totally innocent.
And most of us are not fans of capitalist Russian politics either.
By doing what?
Because they didn't just surrender and hand themselves over to putin who now murders their families?
Edit: oh, she moderated Russia today lol. No wonder she perpetuates Russian propaganda.
By pushing NATO closer to Russian borders. They knew this would happen if they crept any closer.
And there is definitely issues with Nazis in Ukraine that are inconvenient to address for westerners for some reason, but the reason Putins excuses for enacting imperialism on Ukraine work for a lot of people is because there’s inklings of truth in there.
People like to look at global politics as some kind of “good guys vs bad guys” oversimplification BS because that’s what they teach you in western nations, particularly the states. It’s never as simple as that.
Countries apply for themselves, exactly because of Russian imperialism, and the Ukraine invasion proved them right. NATO is just a defense pact. It's none of Putins business if neighboring countries want to join NATO.
There are Nazis in every country. The Ukrainian government isn't run by Nazis, it's closely aligned with the EU. Russia is obviously much more fascist than Ukraine so this whole point is an utterly ridiculous justification.
I agree actually. The US did many questionable things with their coups and wars and use of torture around the world, so I wouldn't say they are the good guys. In the Ukraine war it's clear that Putin/the Kreml are the bad guys though.
Depends on the region and teachers I guess. Here in Germany there is a large focus on the bad things that came from our country and people tend to not trust governments very much, including our own.
Yeah. I assume Germany is better than places like the US and Britain. But I admittedly don’t know much about German schooling.
The issue with nazis as they pertain to Russia in Ukraine is the (alleged, I’ve never been there so wtf do I know) attacks by nazis on Russian-Ukrainians. That’s the excuse Putin gives.
I get annoyed with these conversations sometimes because everyone takes it as me (and I presume other tankies) taking Putins side. I hate Putin. We as ML’s hate Putin. Chances are we hate him more than you.
There is no excuse for Russian imperialism. We just think this is also a bi product of continued US imperialism is all. And everyone thinks that means we’re imperialist apologists somehow.
