Chrome is a browser. Google is a website. They are not the same. It flabbergasts me anytime I find out that someone I know doesn't know what a browser is.

This is just the 21st century version of getting angry at someone saying to xerox a paper or hand them a kleenex.

Its not xeroxing, its copying. Its not a kleenex, its a tissue.

but these brands have become identified so much with a product that their names have become generic for the product itself.

I don't think they're merely complaining about synecdoche...

Oh hey I know about Xerox. Man I'm old.

I think vast majority of my friends wouldn't be able to tell the difference between "browser", "search engine" and just "Google". Yes, it seems weird but TBH does it really matter? They can use internet just fine.

It's not a problem day-to-day but when I'm helping someone troubleshoot and they don't understand that their browser and search engine are separate things it can be frustrating.

True. This is one of the reasons why I only help people with their computers using remote desktop now. I'm so done with doing this verbally over the phone.

probably gonna have the first generation of people who know and understand less about the technology in their very hand than the people who came before them.

Gonna be funny as shit in another 20+ years when the memes shift to tech-inept children asking mom and dad how to do frustratingly basic tasks like print a page or save a file.
