Frost Giant is a studio formed by veterans who previously worked on Blizzard titles like StarCraft II and WarCraft III.

Stormgate is poised to be a spritual successor to SC2 and has a lot of hype surrounding it. It would be disingenous to not allow the community to discuss this game, for that reason.

With /r/starcraft being one of the hundreds of subreddits going private indefinitely, I thought that I'd take the wheel and create a community for it on Lemmy.

This place is going to be run similarly to how things were on /r/Starcraft, with some slight rule changes. Please read and abide by the rules whilst on this community.

General Rules:

  1. Follow the lemmy.world rules outlined in this link. Please note that these are instance-wide rules that do not just apply to this community.

  2. Posts must be related to StarCraft. As long as it's related to Blizzard's hit franchise in some way (including but not limited to fan art, esports, gameplay, guides, events) it is generally welcome here.

  3. No pornographic content. This isn't NSFWLemmy...

  4. Hate speech (including homophobia, transphobia, racism, etc) is not tolerated.

Accusation Rule:

  1. Any accusations made against an organisation commentator, streamer, pro player or other stakeholder within the greater SC community/pro scene should be backed up with evidence. Baseless accusations will be removed.

  2. Do not encourage users to contact sponsors, teams or other stakeholders with negative feedback.

Temp Rule Changes:

  • 23/06/2023 - posts involving Stormgate and Frost Giant Studios are permitted, at least until the game's release. Explanation here.

Hey guys, I know this doesn't apply to many people, but I'm posting my findings in the hope that search engines will index this and help somebody someday. I and a couple friends play Starcraft 2 in Linux using Valve's Proton. Ever since the last balance patch, we've all been hit by this bug where double-tapping an army or building control group doesn't move the camera to view the unit(s). The only thing I've found that fixes this is to delete the user.reg file before you launch the game. This has to be done every time otherwise the bug returns. Unfortunately, deleting this file means you also have to sign into the Blizzard Launcher every time too. You can automate the deletion of the file by changing your Steam shortcut:

  1. Right click on the steam shortcut
  2. Click on Properties...
  3. Change Launch Options to say "rm -f /path/to/user.reg ; %command%" where /path/to/user.reg is the path copied from the Target and then modified. See attached picture.

If you use Xorg, you can use my script to automate the entire sign-in and game launch process using pyautogui: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MD6e9-eDLO44wotWVuFrvpC4Q0k4id5A/view?usp=sharing Just make sure you change the 2 variables that say CHANGEME near the top.

Hello my fellow dead community subscribers! I've been very frustrated by the lack of communication by the balance team and/or whoever is pushing patches. I heard that in this last patch they fixed the biggest of the bugs, but not all of them. The bugs are detailed in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IAj0CB91Pk I've gone through them to see which are fixed and which are still present:

  1. Lurkers shooting units cloaked by Mothership: Fixed!
  2. Oracle revelation with extra range: Still present (I think, this one is hard to reproduce from the video, I'm not sure how exactly range is calculated for revelation.)
  3. Cyclones doing extra damage: Fixed! It leaves a mothership with 300 hp instead of 200 after a full lockon.
  4. Amygdala reaper jump spots: Still bugged, at least partially. Testing this one is hard but I did get a reaper to bug out and spin in a circle like in the video.
  5. Protoss Assimilator probe-queing: Fixed! If you tell a probe to make an assimilator and then queue a 2nd assimilator, it builds the 2nd one right after starting the first.
  6. Energy recharge on warping in units: Still present. Units being warped in are untargetable by Energy Recharge until the unit is fully warped in.

I'm saying big as in popularity, quality and depth of content. In one way or another, I consider clash royale to be some flavor of the RTS genre. But maybe there'll be something with a little more "prestige" than a mobile p2w game.

Liquipedia results | TL discussion thread

(Liquipedia says they start at 5am CDT, but Youtube is saying 4:15am, so there may be a long intro segment/ceremony)

18 Players

Serral, Clem, Oliveira, Cure, Dark, Maru, HeRoMaRinE, Reynor, ByuN, GuMiho, Astrea, Coffee, Classic, Spirit, Solar, herO, ShoWTimE, and SHIN.

(ShoWTimE and SHIN both got in through the last chance qualifier, so they will start in the Knockout Bracket played on August 17th.)

Format

  • Main Stage (played August 14th to 16th)

    • 16 players split into Group A and B
      • Double-elimination brackets, and losing again in the Lower Bracket means you go to the first round of the Knockout Bracket.
      • All matches are Bo5.
      • The winner of each group advances to the Final Four.
      • The 2nd place of Group A faces the 2nd place of Group B
        • Winner advances to the Final Four.
        • Loser drops down to the Quarterfinals of the Knockout Bracket

  • Knockout Bracket (August 17th)

    • 16 Players
      • 6 players who lost in Group A Lower Bracket
      • 6 players who lost in Group B Lower Bracket
      • The player who lost the 2nd places match
      • ShoWTimE and SHIN, who won the qualifier back in July
    • Single-elimination bracket.
    • All matches are Bo3.
    • Finals are Bo5.
    • The winner advances to the Final Four.

(ShoWTimE and SHIN are starting in the Round of 16 of this bracket, but we don't yet know who will be top of the bracket or who will be at the bottom side)

  • Final Four (August 18th)

    • The winner of Group A, the winner of Group B, the winner of the 2nd places match from the Main Stage, and the winner of the Knockout Bracket.
    • Single-elimination bracket.
    • Semifinals (first matches) are Bo7.
    • Grand Finals are Bo9.

https://liquipedia.net/starcraft2/Esports_World_Cup/2024#Group_Stage

"Knockout Bracket: 13 players from the Main Stage and 2 players from the Qualifiers"

so Shin and Showtime will be in the knockout bracket, I'm guessing top left and bottom left of the bracket

so the top 4 will be made up of the 1st place from each group, the winner between the 2nd place from each group (with the loser going to the knockout bracket), and the last slot is the winner of the knockout bracket
