News and Discussions about Reddit

Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules

Rule 1- No brigading.

**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **

YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.

Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.

**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.

If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

:::spoiler Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here.

I don't know what the users said, maybe they deserved to be removed, but it's still ironic

Reddit is so toxic (self.reddit)

There are a few subreddits I check out from time to time because Lemmy doesn’t have the volume of users required to keep those niche conversations active.

Wow, what a pain! There’s so much hostility and byzantine rules. It’s just not worth it.

Its a bit old, but I just learned it via the retro-dodo article here: https://retrododo.com/google-is-killing-retro-dodo/

So I checked out reddit after a long time and was going through the top of r/videogames subreddit and I could clearly see a pattern in most of the posts there. Posts were mostly like "what game ______ for you?" or "what game _____ like this?" Now I could be wrong but it doesn't feel 'organic' (if that's correct way to put it). It's like these are put up intentionally. Thoughts?

It is a subconscious level ad for the utility/value of the platform. You don't need to be overt about the screenshot containing Lemmy by name. Any subtle details are all that is needed. This is all it takes to attract the most valuable people; simply show them that they are missing out on something useful. It is effective psy ops.

For a while Reddit dot com has been blocking my browser since I use a VPN, but old reddit was still functional for me. Although I closed my reddit account just after the API-exodus, I still frequent the niche communities which has hyper-specific topics discussed.

Found to my surprise today that they are now blocking old reddit as well if I use a VPN.

Never thought that [old].[reddit].[com] would one day show that f'kin "Whoa there Pardner" page.

Fuck you spez. Really, fuck you.

I have been diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and I have OCD, and I really need to find someone or another community to talk to regarding koalas as I seem to be getting insults and possible slander over a posts I had made here and on Reddit. I'm not gong to risk repeating what the post is or was about unless someone asks and wants to talk to me further about it in DM, since it had gotten removed due to them thinking it was against the community rules of where it was posted.

At the moment, I'm just again feeling frustrated and may not been that clear since I was trying to find an answer, plus I was probably tired at the time and not thinking clearly as well. If anyone wants to talk to me about this, you can let me know and I'm open for DMs as well.

Some 7% of Reddit’s free share float (or more) has been sold short so far, according to an estimate from the analytics company Ortex cited by Reuters. That’s something the social platform was worried would happen, noting in its prospectus that retail traders in its subreddits (and particularly on r/WallStreetBets) could cause “extreme volatility” in Reddit’s share price. Those Redditors had already signaled in posts that they were planning to short the stock.

Public data revealing short interest positions on Reddit won’t be available until April 9.

Reddit shares fell as much as 11% at market open to a low of $51.52 after an already-bad Wednesday. Bloomberg reports that Wednesday’s decline was in part due to a Hedgeye Risk Management report naming Reddit as a short idea, saying the stock could plummet 50%.

Reddit’s share price in the low $50 range is still well above its IPO price of $34, and even above its impressive first-day closing price of $48, which had investors chattering about the company’s impressive gains.

It may not be that long compared to some of yours out here. It stings because that account was my main account, so many memories in it and I even met my wife through it. Unfortunately, I have recently experienced what I can only describe as sabotage on my account.

I don't know much about how Reddit and moderation works behind the scenes but recently everything I post in different subs keeps getting auto-removed without any explanation whatsoever. If I message the mods of those subs, then there are only three responses: 1) no response whatsoever, 2) sarcasm and unkindness without actually assisting me, and worse 3) a permanent ban without further elaboration.

Googling "how to report abusive Reddit mods" comes up with a bunch of threads all saying the same thing: there is no way to report them. Additionally, I have encountered individuals who dismiss or deny the existence of moderator abuse within the platform. I've decided it's just not worth my mental stress to put up with this circus and just start anew and keep a low profile. I'm also trying out here in Lemmy, maybe this is better.

Please be better.

I've been the main moderator of the same community since 2016. This evening, i approved my last comment.

I'm leaving for two reasons:

  1. Reddit went public a week ago. I didn’t volunteer to work for a publicly traded company, i volunteered to work for a community. As long as i live under capitalism i accept that my labor will generate value for shareholders, but damned if i ever do it for free. (this is not a Faulkner quote)

  2. April 1st is coming and i'm scared they might do another r/place. Doing in r/place 2022 and 2023 has left me dejected and bitter and i don't want to feel obligated to participate again.

Leaving felt like ripping myself off of something warm i've been comfortably glued to for a long time. Still recommend it for anyone still giving Reddit shareholders free labor

EDIT: there are too many comments to respond to, but i've appreciated all of them! Thank you

I was recently banned from the subreddit, r/Robinhood for making a comment about Robinhood's shady practices. I quoted their own rule, "Don't be you", calling them hypocrites, and received a 7 day ban from Reddit the following day.

How can we draw attention to Reddit supporting a subreddit whose very rules promote and protect intolerance and harassment?

I encourage you to message Reddit directly and report this community.

Reddit must now answer to its shareholders as well as its vocal users.
