I bought this PC 2 months ago. Yesterday, I had to transport it by car. Even though I packed it in the original box with foam, when I tried to set it up again, I noticed that this cable, which I had secured with electrical tape, was loose. I'm sure it wasn't loose before.

I know it's some kind of power cable, but I don't know where to plug it in (I'm not a hardware guy).

Note: The PC is turning on and functioning normally. I don't know if it's related or just a coincidence, but my headphones that I usually connect to the back stopped working.

Can someone shed some light on this?

I've had zero luck finding any info on this. Maybe my search skills are bad :/

What I'm looking for are mouse skates that create the feel of a mouse on a mouse pad. All the skates I'm seeing are for ultra low friction when used on a mouse pad. Basically, I want to get rid of the need for a mouse pad on my desk for aesthetic and practical reasons and am hoping that someone knows about a set of mouse skates that would facilitate this.

Yellow, big brain PC users 🖖

I'm traveling and moving a lot for quite a while now, and getting a rig was never part of my plan

But recently I realized I can get a mini-itx and bring it anywhere I want

Looking for your advices and build configurations

I want it to be like top, but without it just be overpriced. I don't care for LEDs, as small and as powerful as possible, high-mini-atx-end 😄

Thank yowoou

Im using an ASrock A520-HDV motherboard, and when i was rebooting my computer to boot it into windows (i have windows 10 and arch linux installed) it showed the grub menu for 1 second and then the screen went totally black, so i pushed the reset button of my case, but when i did that the computer didnt POST and it started to beep 3 consecutive times followed by 1 beep, then stopping and doing it all over again, i reseted the cmpuer with the power supply and it booted normally, but i want to know what those beeps mean, i also checked the motherboard's manual and it doesnt say anything

I may have the opportunity to upgrade my home office from dual 42" 4K panels to a single 8K panel. Actually, the two 42" won’t fit as my new space is limited to a 72" maximum total width so it's drop to one monitor or go big. I’ll be moving my gaming rig into the office so gaming performance will matter but probably only a couple hours a week vs 50 hours of CAD and office apps.

Although the easy answer is to grab the Samsung QN900C, it’s realistically more than I want to pay. I’m curious if anyone can say that there’s any day-to-day difference between the 900C flagship and either the 800C (or last year’s 800B) while I’m out looking for deals this week. I’m currently disregarding the 57" dual 4k gaming monitor due to the curve (it would obscure half my desk).

I have an Asus PG27AQDM OLED monitor, and the out-of-the-box HDR experience is, well, atrocious. I can make it look better, almost perfect, by messing around with Nvidia control panel, but those settings obviously look awful with HDR disabled. So, is there a way to automatically apply different profiles according to the colour space being used?

Long post and well worth the read, but the interesting part to me is this:

Windows operating system and apps

Customers using Windows have always used a combination of operating system functionality as well as apps, but now Windows will clearly identify operating system functionality in places like Settings, Start, and Search:

  • Settings > System > System Components will show notable operating system components.
  • Start menu’s All Apps list has been renamed to All and operating system components are labeled with “system”.
  • Under Search, search results will show operating system components labeled with “system”.

All apps in Windows can be uninstalled. Of course, apps can always be installed again from the Microsoft Store and internet. Settings > Apps > Installed apps continue to show all the apps installed on the PC and we’ve added the ability to uninstall:

  • Camera
  • Cortana
  • Web Search from Microsoft Bing, in the EEA
  • Microsoft Edge, in the EEA
  • Photos

Gaming PC build review (self.pcmasterrace)

Hi! Building a gaming PC for a friend, looking to spend about 1300$ USD. Will need to include a monitor as well. He’s looking to play some AAA and some esports games, was trying to get a 1440 setup with ability to upgrade in the future. Would you make any changes to what I’ve put together?

My boyfriend asked for a computer build for podcasting and light gaming for Christmas. He specifically wants a custom build desktop and I wasn't able to talk him out of going this route. We're starting from zero so I'd need to get a tower, monitor, keyboard, mouse, mic, webcam, etc. Trying to keep it under $1300ish for the package.

What kind of specs should I target to future proof the system for podcasting in case this becomes a serious hobby for him? I've built hundreds of PCs in my lifetime but never had to consider audio/video production. Also curious if anyone has advice for the podcasting equipment.

Thanks ahead of time.

I'm looking at the ASRock PG27FF1A 27” FHD IPS 165Hz FreeSync Premium monitor, the price is in AUD so it's closer to $125 before tax.

I am content with 1080p at 27', it's what I am currently using and my 3050 laptop isn't appropriate to increase the resolution. My laptop has HDMI 2.1 output.

Hi Everyone,

First time poster here. I was wondering if the sound quality of my PC can go to the next level with some minor purchases.

My current setup: Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk Headphones: Philips Fidelio X1S

I was looking to get an external DAC/AMP combo, but wasn’t sure if it’s worth it.

Thank you to everyone in advance

I have had this tube of MX4 since 2013, it's served me well, countless rebuilds of my computers, CPUs and GPUs alike, home servers, gaming computers, laptops, games consoles, pi4, I used this on everything. You served me well.

8th June 2013 to 4th November 2023.

New to me and should do me well for a year or 2... Upgrading from a 4790k and a 780ti

5700XT 3700X 16GB DDR4 ram

So the Zotac RTX 4080 Trinity OC is too wide to properly fit in my Phantek P400A thanks to that giant power adapter.

I can't even use one of those 90 degree cable mods because the fan shroud sticks out.

Can someone reccomend me a suitably wide case.

Hi again! So...based on my previous post, it'd seem that it's going to be quite some headache to get an old intel 6700 CPU with a PCIe 3.0 to work decently with more up to date GPUs (that is, to see a decent improvement in performance at all). I'd like to do a cross-jump to AMD CPUs this time, to be paired with a 6800XT or a 7800XT. I intend to game on Linux, although there will be a Win10 partition for the troublesome games, and also for the Vive Wireless, which is unsupported on Linux. But I've been out of the AMD loop for a while. What's cooking? What would be a good second-to-last generation CPU recommendation or so? Am I missing any important tech if I don't choose the latest and the greatest? Is ReBAR a thing yet? (Not sure if this is the answer to PS5's direct asset streaming from the SSD straight to the GPU). At this point, I'd like to know what CPUs are adviseable, in order to get some idea for a PC build, so I can go get quotes...and see if that's something I'd be able to afford :)

Hi guys! So I'm considering upgrading my...veteran PC. Currently, a Core i7 6700 with an Nvidia GTX1070, 16GB RAM running from a Gigabyte Z170 Gaming K3 (PCIe 3.0) mobo. I'm currently considering to upgrade the GPU to a 6800XT, although I saw the 4070 for a bit cheaper, maybe ~80USD less. I've posted this earlier, and got a helpful reply making me aware both of these cards are already PCIe 4.0, and while the CPU might be a bit bottlenecked, it should be a noticeable performance increase. I've got an additional comment saying otherwise, that even currently with the 1070 the CPU would be bottlenecking. I was not able to reply to these, as my post (on FOSS gaming community) was removed. I guess this is not FOSS enough... So, PCMasterrace, what do you guys think?

Additionally, this veteran mobo would support a slight CPU increase to a 7700, which on the second hand market it wouldn't be all that much money (for what I reckon, not that much performance increase, either). What do you guys think? What should I do?

Thanks!

Enter the Norse realm

His vengeance against the Gods of Olympus years behind him, Kratos now lives as a man in the realm of Norse Gods and monsters. It is in this harsh, unforgiving world that he must fight to survive… and teach his son to do the same.

Grasp a second chance

Kratos is a father again. As mentor and protector to Atreus, a son determined to earn his respect, he is forced to deal with and control the rage that has long defined him while out in a very dangerous world with his son.

Journey to a dark, elemental world of fearsome creatures

From the marble and columns of ornate Olympus to the gritty forests, mountains and caves of pre-Viking Norse lore, this is a distinctly new realm with its own pantheon of creatures, monsters and gods.

Engage in visceral, physical combat

With an over the shoulder camera that brings the player closer to the action than ever before, fights in God of War™ mirror the pantheon of Norse creatures Kratos will face: grand, gritty and grueling. A new main weapon and new abilities retain the defining spirit of the God of War series while presenting a vision of conflict that forges new ground in the genre.

Looking at a 4070ti or a 4080 to upgrade my dual 1080s from my other post but now I'm not sure which 3rd party model to choose (ASUS TUF, MSI, ZOTAC, Gigabyte...). I'm looking for longevity and not specifically max power if that means a shorter life. Using it mostly for general gaming. Mostly FPS and such.

What's the difference?

Is it just added cooling for boosted performance?

Why does the price change ~$400?

Chances are im either too dumb or don't use any programs that would require overclocking/boosting.

I'm willing to shell out the $ if it's worth it but I have no idea. I may wait until the 50s come out to pull the trigger but that's an issue for later.

Not a big budget in mind, this is what I am looking at.

Acer Nitro KG272 S3 27" FHD VA 180Hz

The price in AUD, which is $127 USD before tax.

I am currently using a 3050 laptop / 5600H connected to my 1080p/60hz Acer from 2014. What I like about this monitor is it looks exactly the same and is the same size, it will be swapped with the existing VESA mount.

I cannot find any official documentation, some websites don't list it as HDR10 at all, I also find that regional variants can be very different. Some information shows this to be IPS, but I also can't find that out for sure, I also don't understand if that would be better/worse for high refresh rate. I am also on the assumption that 180Hz is really 165Hz with a possible OC I won't be using.

I will be playing at 1080p and can handle my games at 120+, the HDR10 will be a boost. I had thought that HDR400 was the dodgy spec, but now I am reading negative remarks about anything below HDR600, I thought HDR10 was genuine 10bit.

This is the best price in my regional stores and can be picked up locally.

In the listing, it specifies 250 cd/m² which I assume is important.

I am planning on buying a 6950xt and I want a 1440p 240hz monitor to accompany it i was thinking about these: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/compare/gigabyte-m27q-x-vs-dell-alienware-aw2723df/31657/34684?usage=3623&threshold=0.10 I also want a case with fans included on the front and back, ideally minimal or no rgb update: going for a 7800xt instead. what do you think of the o11 air mini?
