Ever "invent" a game before? I made this and have been craving a round ever since. How does it go?

Perhaps I'm being difficult, but I'm not deriving pleasure from documentaries the way I used to. I realize I'm speaking in generalities, please humor me.

I find the presentation of most modern docs so hyperdramatic and forced, it detracts from the underlying subject matter.

I would prefer if documentaries tried their best to collect and present information in a fascinating way, and present it as reasonably neutral as possible, with some leeway for the author's voice. I don't appreciate it when the superficial presentation constantly tries to cue me emotionally.

I really don't understand why I have to have violen symphony music playing like it's the eve of world war 3, and all the nukes are about to be launched, when I'm watching a documentary about snail parasites or particle collider research.

Even though it's different auditorially, to me it's the same principle as applying a laugh track to a comedy show. I don't need it suggested to me when something is funny, and I don't need to be cued by string orchestra music that something is serious or worrisome. Please trust me to make these judgments on my own!

I think all trends ebb and flow but this one seems to have taken root and it's doesn't seem to be letting up.

I wonder if other people feel this way, or if I'm just watching the wrong things?

I feel like a lot of zombie fiction where characters know what zombies are and the dangerous of getting bitten end up being semi-satirical comedies. Movies and shows where the idea of zombies didn't previously exist seem to be a bit more serious from what I've experienced. I don't know if it's the aura of suspense and mystery or because it leads to more pandemonium.

Last night while I was half asleep I told my girlfriend that "they're making the tectonic plates machine washable".

I had to go on FMLA today. The Family and Medical Leave Act in the U.S. basically guarantees your job will still be there if you have to go on extended medical leave. You don't get paid, you just don't get fired.

So now we will be on a single income for the foreseeable future. I wish I lived in a civilized country where I would be covered in this sort of situation, but instead we'll get deeper in debt because we won't be able to keep up with the medical bills.

I hate it. I hate it so much. I don't expect to get paid indefinitely if I was away indefinitely, but the only pay I will get is that the two days of paid time off I had saved up will be spent on this, so when I do come back, I'll have nothing left for the rest of the year.

I don't even blame the people I work for. I blame the system that they're a part of. Why should they pay for my sick time if no one else does? I get that. It just sucks and is yet another bullshit part of living in America.

There are plenty of third party apps for Lemmy on Android/iPhone or Web, but are there any decent apps built for desktop use? Is it just simply a matter of relying on a web interface currently, or are there any well rounded apps out there that are worth mentioning.

I'm traveling with family this weekend in a touristy place and have been out in public in crowded areas. I am really shocked by the number of people who have loud, personal conversations on the phone in speaker mode. This ranges from walking down the sidewalk, to in line for washrooms, to seated restaurant dining.

I've heard people say that it's because the phone speaker breaks (for their ear) but I've never had that happen in all the years I've destroyed phones and never had a friend or colleague say that happened. Other people say it's because the glass is cracked and they worry about cutting their face, etc.

My personal bias is this is inconsiderate but then I ask myself how is it different from talking to a person next to them, say. I'm willing to be change my mind here.

People who do this, please explain what's going on so I can sleep at night. :)

Small chance I figure, but anybody here go to Ocean's Calling last weekend? Had a blast but don't have anybody besides my wife to talk about it with haha
