Unlike my Supernote, I use the pen tools on the Boox exclusively and hate their pencil.

It's the opposite on the Supernote in the Atelier drawing app. The pencil on that is fantastic.

In my town, there's a local gardening store. I often go there by car, but recently having gotten my first commuter bike several months ago, I decided to bike there. It's a longer ride, but no big deal; I had other stops, and I only needed seed packets. I got there as they opened, and I started looking for somewhere to lock my bike. There are several dozen parking spaces and plenty of storefront, but for the life of me, I couldn't find a bike rack. Turns out there was none, so I did the next-best thing and used an out-of-the-way cart return as a makeshift rack, ran inside feeling hurried and embarrassed, bought the seeds, and left.

Instead of giving up, I emailed them talking about my intention to commute by bike when possible, my history shopping with them, why I choose them over a nearer and more bike-accessible store, my experience that day, an argument for why not only I would appreciate it but why others probably would, and how small businesses can get long-lasting, off-the-shelf bike racks for fairly cheap. Not even 90 minutes passed before I got an email which CC'd the business' management team as follows:

Hi [name]

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write to us with your suggestion.

We will seriously look in to the possibility of a bike rack.

And thank you for your business too. We appreciate it.

In the meantime, also feel free to lock your bike up against our long line of metal fencing located along our driveway [...] That should be reasonably secure as well.

Copying the [business name] manager team on this well [sic] to see what and where we can make this improvement.

I agree it's strictly possible that I'm being brushed off, but given bike racks can be bought off-the-shelf so cheaply, given there are neighborhoods very nearby, given they sell plenty of small goods that anyone with a bike could pick up, given they're a long-established business, and given they went so far as to CC the entire management team, I feel confident something might actually get done here. I hope this will not only let people who already want to bike there do so, but it might also give the idea to some people who don't yet.

The incidence of Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer (EOCRC) is increasing. However, the prognosis of EOCRC compared to Late-Onset Colorectal Cancer (LOCRC), and the ideal age for initial colorectal cancer (CRC) screening are not clear. In this study, we identified the pathological differences between the groups and determined the optimal screening age for CRC patients. We included 10,172 patients diagnosed with CRC from January 2011 to December 2021 in this study. Survival differences were compared by plotting Kaplan–Meier survival curves and conducting landmark analysis. Additionally, the diagnostic age of CRC patients was analyzed using age cumulative curves. Compared to LOCRC patients, EOCRC patients had a higher proportion of deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) and more advanced TNM staging (P < 0.05). The five-year survival of EOCRC patients was significantly better than that of LOCRC patients (P < 0.05). Laparoscopic surgery improved the long-term survival of EOCRC patients. Proficient mismatch repair (pMMR) favored the long-term survival of EOCRC patients. The survival rate of EOCRC patients at TNM stages I and II was higher than that of LOCRC patients at the same stages (P < 0.05). The age cumulative curve showed a substantial increase in the number of CRC patients at 40 years. The long-term prognosis of EOCRC patients is better than that of LOCRC patients, especially among those with pMMR, stages I–II, and who undergo laparoscopic surgery. For people with a high risk of cancer, such as a family history of cancer and poor lifestyle habits, the starting age for CRC screening should be 40 years.

Why consolidate communities?

One of the advantages of a decentralized platform like Lemmy is the ability to create parallel communities on the same topic. "You don't like how a community is being moderated? Go to another instance and start a new community!" (with or without blackjack and hookers)

However, this is also a double-edged sword. The creation of multiple communities on the same (or similar) topics can also fragment the userbase, leading to very sparsely populated communities.

I think until there’s some tool or system that helps collate all the information out here, fragmentation is detrimental to growth.

I’m not going to copy and paste the same comment with every mirrored post.

So sometimes commenting feels like a waste of time.

Centralizing helps ensure that there’s vibrant, consistent discussion which is what Lemmy should be about.

I sometimes think that unmoderated communities should be closed, and just be left and locked with a pointer to the active one. In case an issue arises with the active one, they can still be unlocked and used as back up.

The next question is, of course "Which communities should we consolidate to?"

Given the general sentiment to move off of ML (for ideological reasons) and off of World (to avoid centralization of instances), my proposal would be [email protected]. I think the SolarPunk instance is a nice match for an EV community, but I am interested to hear what others think.
