I was waiting for this comment. 😁

Brian Wilson and Al Jardine have been pretty openly against the Orange One using their music. But yeah... Mike Love's gonna Mike Love. Not sure why Bruce Johnston still associates with him.

Whoops, I made an assumption there. Post edited.

Yeah, Wikimedia commons... not sure why someone would do that.

~~Almost 1 in 4 are downvotes. The word "vegan" really triggers some people.~~

Nevermind. Bad quality post is the explanation. I've seen the above-mentioned triggering happen enough that I made an assumption. Disregard. 😁

Hey, I think that Linda Ellerbee would be a fine debate moderator.

In the video: Shifter presents the argument that in cities where bicycling is normalised, there isn't as much of a visible "cycling culture" because people are able to use bikes as an everyday utilitarian method of getting around (much like a parent driving a depreciating Hyundai minivan to cart their kids and stuff around).

I've heard this sentiment before with other content creators (NotJustBikes and BicycleDutch, for example) who have experienced what bicycling is like when it's normalised.

Is there a specific "cycling culture" where you live?

(Edit: Routed the video through Invidious for privacy reasons.)

Bicycling at Night (lemmy.world)

Does anyone else go out on their bike at night? This is a picture from my commute over the winter (January 2023), and it was these scenes of beautiful quiet that made it all worth it (plus the lack of cars).

In "Mulligan," a new Netflix animated series, Al and Questlove are the only two surviving celebrities in a post-apocalyptic world.

A quote from a page of Kurt Cobain's handwritten journal.

Translated to English:

Do not unjustly eat fish the water has given up,

And do not desire as food the flesh of slaughtered animals,

Or the white milk of mothers who intended its pure draught

for their young, not noble ladies.

And do not grieve the unsuspecting birds by taking eggs;

for injustice is the worst of crimes.

And spare the honey which the bees get industriously

from the flowers of fragrant plants;

For they did not store it that it might belong to others,

Nor did they gather it for bounty and gifts.

I washed my hands of all this; and wish that I

Perceived my way before my hair went gray!

Abu al-'Ala' al-Ma'arri (973 - 1057 C.E.)

Preaching to the choir, I know... but cycling really can improve health drastically for those who do it regularly. Lots of people don't get enough exercise, and getting onto a bike is a fun way for most of us to get it.

What sorts of bikes are we all riding? I've got an old Trek that I use for both recreation and commuting, and it has served me quite well.

It's slightly old news, but it's a deep dive into an important subject.

Anyone who has watched Not Just Bikes knows has seen examples of just how dangerous it can be to ride a bicycle in North America. Things have been getting worse, it seems.

I live in a rural area, so there isn't really anything close to cycling infrastructure... but there are enough people on bikes around that most motorized vehicles slow down, move over, and even indicate!

I guess this would depend a lot on what local councils and governments prioritize.

What's the state of cycling in your area?

I love me some vegan cheesesteak, but they do take a while to soak/bake/fry up the "steak" (tofu). I made this one some months back. Calzones also bring me back to my former years of greasy takeaway. What about all of you?
