Hell yeah brother, keep it up. You’ll hit other phenomenal milestones but this one will probably stay most satisfying for a long time

HDMI 2.2 will be released in the first half of this year and be widely available “to all HDMI 2.x adopters.” Your TV and external devices will need to support the specification

Will this solve eARC sync issues on existing devices that support 2.1? Like I could just get a new cable and it would work?

My thinking was it wasn’t enough weight. I’ll watch the video soon and see though, if it works for that guy it should work for me

Yeah, I’ve swapped out most exercises for wrist friendly ones. It’s just, I have to do a lot of decline ring push ups to make up for losing every bench press movement and I fuckin hate those. Sadly they’re the only chest workout we can figure that keep the wrists in a neutral grip.

Slowly, more exercises are returning, but the ones I want back most will be the last to come. This is easily the injury I regret most, I truly hope none of you ever get it.

[–] thrawn 2 points 3 weeks ago

Right, relevance, posted this here cause it’s hugely affected my workout routine. All bench movements are out and I’ve had to throw in calisthenics. Which is fine, but I’d kill for my wrist to fully recover

TFCC injury (self.fitness)

Got a partial TFCC tear climbing like six months ago and recovery has been slow. Ortho doesn’t think it needs operating and PT likes progress, so I guess I’m inclined to agree.

Anyone here have personal experience? Things are mostly recovered but it’s been very, very slowly improving for a couple months now. Like barely. Is the tail end meant to take this long?

Edit: I’m in my late 20s

Two sentence comments get strawmanned, and since it’s not a work email, nobody has to read it. Manage your time better and skip it, skip this. Why bother with social media if you don’t want to read more than two sentences?

Not to get like, “back in my day about it”, but long comments and casual conversation used to be encouraged. Used to be seen as lazy to drop points for the sake of brevity. Your comments are short and this is the first time you’ve mentioned the actual topic since the og comment— potentially useful discussion is lost in the race to the bottom.

Poor political strategy is asinine. That one has real world effects.

I love this thing. Novel and weird pens are some of my favorites. Shame it writes poorly, could’ve been a good on ramp to fountain pens for people who like weird shit

Yeah I can monologue a bit, but I have found that explaining in full avoids miscommunication and eventually gets a real response. I do get the weak replies that can’t justify their own ideas, but in my entire time on Lemmy, I have always eventually gotten a real explanation. Even this time.

I’d wade through a hundred of yous to get to someone willing to engage in length. It’s always worth it.

Good point and I generally agree. I suppose it comes down to:

But he's not. At least not while he was president.

Almost every time someone praises Carter, it’s prefaced with “presidency aside”. His presidency has been looked down upon for decades. If he hadn’t followed it with decades of humanitarian service, he wouldn’t be remembered.

Perhaps I just don’t see the Dems’ lines about how he’s the ideal leftist. In that context I understand the need to discuss the bads. But having not seen, well, any praise ever for his life as a politician this article comes off as trying to keep leftist spirits down. Still, the Dems doing that would fit right into the MO, so yeah good point.

Insult and run: the standard response when you can’t actually defend your opinions. Some can explain why they hold a position, but this sure is easier.

Why shouldn't people learn about these perspectives?

Well yeah, that’s why I’m asking what the point is. What is there to be learned from a bad story on this particular dead individual? I said a few times that I can see no discernible societal benefit. I’d love to see even a hypothetical of how this could lead to positive change.

I hate to be so results-oriented. Really, I do. But the left has lost and lost and lost so I struggle to see a purpose in aiming leftist attention away from the upcoming grim future.

"Can everyone quit being so negative"

I’ve noticed that people are more likely to respond to the last thing said, as if the rest was skimmed or forgotten. When I said it was more important to keep the upcoming administration in chaos, did you think I meant by praising them? Negativity is obviously useful when targeted correctly.

If you reread the comment, it’s pretty clear that my issue is with seemingly pointless negativity— the comment literally begins with “what’s the point?” Like I said, absolutely nobody is praising the bad things Carter may have done. The full focus is on the 40 years of civil service following his presidency. It’s almost always preceded with “he may not have been a good president, but…”

Aiming the limited public attention space at dead Jimmy Carter’s actions from over 40 years ago serves only the people presently planning on killing unions. Yet instead of trying to convince voters that unions aren’t that bad— something I’ve convinced even business owners of, when it’s not their employees— people would rather sit here and turn the never-ending stream of negativity on Current Famous Person.

So really, just tell me the point. If you have one I’m happy to give you that, and if it somehow outweighs the downside of leftist infighting, I’d be thrilled to admit wrong. I’m not here to pick fights and genuinely want to believe the left is trying to generate positive results or that this is article will do that. It’s been pretty hopeless recently watching the right surge forward while the left goes at each other and manages nothing.

Hell, Luigi Mangione alone changed more for society than we’ve managed in years. Probably because he wasn’t (allegedly) aiming at the wrong guy.

[–] thrawn 21 points 3 weeks ago (13 children)

Kind of a weird question— and I’m not defending whatever the article is alleging— but what’s the point of trying to smear Carter’s memory?

He’s dead. Nobody praises the bad things he might have done. This feels like an attempt to instill even more tiredness into an already exhausted society— “see? Even the guy everyone likes sucked! Nobody should be thought of as good, you must keep this in mind.”

This doesn’t help unions. This doesn’t help the left. This doesn’t help anyone. Americans are rightfully haggard and all remaining energy should be spent trying to keep the upcoming administration in chaos to minimize harm or supporting good people. Why waste time trying to diminish the memory of a man who, far as I can tell, has done nothing but good the past 40 years?

And fuck, haven’t we had enough negativity? Many days I avoid social media entirely because it’s just negativity upon negativity. I genuinely can’t fathom a single positive or useful takeaway from media like this.

So I saw that first trailer and wrote the whole movie off.

Months later, amidst the shockingly positive reception, I was curious enough to see it for myself. And damn, it’s actually pretty great and I saw it twice. Being a Transformers fan can be hard with the inconsistent quality, and I’m still surprised they pulled off a great animated movie where the robots were the sole focus. It also had many lore elements I’d long wanted to see on the big screen, which I won’t spoil.

I think casual and longtime fans alike would enjoy it. Given the current underperformance, I’m not holding out for a sequel, but I’m damn pleased we got this one at all. I’ll forever be grateful to the cast and crew for bringing Orion Pax and D-16 into theaters.

Just some appreciation (self.voyagerapp)

It always brings happiness when I see a Voyager update. Thanks @[email protected] for continuing to work on the app. Couldn’t imagine Lemmy without it.

Clinton is a ready-made replacement. She possesses an unparalleled resume and an unmatched depth of experience. She has consistently redefined the roles she has served, from secretary of State and U.S. senator to first lady and Children’s Defense Fund attorney. Her extensive background in domestic and international affairs is not just impressive; at a time when global politics are increasingly volatile and complex, her experience is priceless. Her continued advocacy for children’s rights and health care—a topic of ever-increasing importance post-pandemic—adds another layer of appeal.

First, thanks again for making this app. It’s excellent and I’m always impressed when I use it.

I have an unusual and possibly niche feature request inspired by Alien Blue: swiping forwards and backwards from any edge. So from the left edge you can swipe right as if to go back, but reverse the motion and go forwards instead. And vice versa. It feels like using momentum to navigate either way with a single finger. Discord also had this feature until the mobile app redesign.

Video example here, it says it’ll expire in two days but I don’t know where else to put it. This allows for satisfying operation and one handed browsing, such as when vigorously masturbating to tech news.

I understand if this is too niche to add, it’s merely something I’ve wanted every app to have since AB. Thanks for reading!

Ps, I would also appreciate an option to put the vote buttons on the left. Years of AB then Apollo have gotten me quite used to that, and maybe left handed people would appreciate it. No rush on either of these if you choose to work on them, I’ve been meaning to ask for both of these since the days of web app only. I actually meant to ask Apollo’s dev for the swipe thing too, back when it released in the App Store, but didn’t interact much back on reddit and never got around to it.

So the Ahsoka show has come and gone and I didn’t much care for it. I rather forgot how little I cared for Thrawn’s characterization because the rest of the show was, in my opinion, somehow worse than even the butchering (again imo) of Thrawn.

Nonetheless I remain less than impressed at what they have done, and I am beginning to worry that Filoni’s film will be a solid stinker that joins the rest of Disney’s current critical and commercial slump. I also hope Zahn is unbothered out there and not disappointed that they threw out six books of characterization.

Equally I’m sad we’ll never get the Thrawn/Ezra ally dynamic against the Grysk, that the Asdendancy crisis is likely out the window, and about the chance that we do not ever get books again. Zahn’s current characterization of Thrawn is so removed from Filoni’s that more books would probably be seen as at odds with the TV version. Well, not that Lucasfilm leadership much cares about readers’ opinions.

A bleak post but those are some of my thoughts. It’s been a while since the show ended and it was (imo) so bad that I didn’t really care about what they did to Thrawn, but now that I’m reflecting on it, I’m not the biggest fan.

While this was resoundingly the expectation, I will admit some sadness that all of Zahn’s new characterization of Thrawn is being discarded in favor of an Heir redux. I’m glad Filoni is getting to live out his dream of Ahsoka’s story, I just wish it didn’t come at the expense of Zahn’s character, who he no doubt cared for much as Filoni cares for Ahsoka.

It was wise of Zahn to make his continuation of the story— Thrawn and Ezra teaming up— known. I imagine he knew what was coming.

The saddest part is that Thrawn’s entire characterization and purpose will likely never be completed, and the book series (where Thrawn truly lives, as film cannot delve into the thoughts of him and his crew) may end at Ascendancy.

Maybe I’m jumping the gun and they’ll get it right, but it doesn’t seem likely.
