That’s certainly one way to get your name in the record books

I went to a local park by myself today and did the trail there. It was 3.22 mi (5.18 km).

It was hell.

The middle 60% of the route was a dirt path. Except it rained recently, and due to ongoing cloud cover the middle 60% was actually mud.

It was like trying to walk on a slip & slide. It was frustrating in the extreme. I persisted because I’m stubborn and not terribly sensible.

Never again will I attempt that trail, even if there hasn’t been any recent rain.

What I do need to do, is find a local park with a dirt path that has better drainage. Jogging on sidewalks is starting to make my feet hurt.

I haven’t posted on here, and that’s unlikely to change any time soon.

I comment in spurts: nothing at all for a few days, then several in a single day when topics pique my interest.

I’d like to see more content, particularly in the communities that I follow.

LIGHTYEARS by Dirt Monkey

Part of why it’s so catchy for me is how it samples Suzanne Vega’s hit Tom’s Diner.

Signing him to that contract in the first place was one of the dumber moves in terms of roster construction I’ve ever seen (from someone not named Jerry Jones). Even a Deshaun Watson without the sexual assault habit wasn’t worth what they gave him.

I loved the Harpoon series of naval warfare simulation games. I haven’t played since the late 90s but they were a lot of fun.

Did my first parkrun on saturday. Finished in just over 36 minutes. Only walked about half of it. Was just as low key & low stress as I’d hoped, until my watch didn’t want to cooperate with exiting the timer and showing my barcode. Luckily i still had the page open on my phone’s browser.

Am wanting to return but won’t necessarily make it every weekend.

Dungeon grinding in your favorite MMO is a valid way to spend the day….

Provided that by doing so you’re not falling too far behind on life maintenance (laundry, grocery shopping, etc).

I mostly enjoy my job:

Good points:

  • I have a very good boss who does her best to make our lives easier, and whose expectations of us are clear, consistent, and reasonable.
  • I have an excellent benefits package.
  • I have very good work-life balance.
  • I have a very short commute.
  • There’s an on-site fitness center that’s pretty nice and is open before work.
  • I get along pretty well with my coworkers.
  • I mostly like what I do, when I can get my brain to shut up and cooperate in actually getting some work done.

Bad points:

  • I could probably get a sizable pay raise if I got a similar job in the private sector.
  • Our institutional funding depends in part on the state legislature & gubernatorial executive actions so we can easily find ourselves with unstable funding.
  • Because of budget crunch, we are in a hiring freeze and my department, who just lost a person to retirement, will probably be denied authorization to hire someone to fill the newly vacated spot.

Overall, it’s worth my while to stay here. At a minimum I will stay long enough to vest in the pension system, and because I hate job hunting with a passion, I’ll probably stay at least as long as my boss is here.

Very mild. I’ve seen freezing temperatures exactly once in the six+ years I’ve lived here.
