Really good first person insight into how hard it is to make it on an NFL team while having to train during COVID year, getting cut from multiple teams, going on IR multiple times.

The officiating crew committed a baffling mistake on Thursday night when Giants tight end Daniel Bellinger was flagged for facemasking, even though replays showed that Bellinger didn't grab Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown's facemask, and instead Overshown grabbed Bellinger's facemask.

This is an objective, unbiased ranking in the same vein as the NFL Title Belt. As such, the number 1 ranked team will always be the same as the current NFL Title Belt holder. You can see the original belt that inspired my own here, which they are now updating again.

This is Week 3 of the NFL Title Rankings of the 2024 season. See here for last week’s rankings.

10 of the 16 games this last weekend ended with the lower ranked team jumping the higher ranked team.

The Chiefs beat the Falcons to keep the NFL Title Belt and first ranking. The Chiefs will hold the NFL Title Belt until their first loss of the 2024 season. The Chargers will have a chance to take the title belt on Sunday.

With the Panthers beating the Raiders, and 3 other bottom ranked teams winning, the Chargers are now last place until their next win. The Chargers will play the Chiefs Sunday to move out from last.

If the Chargers are able to beat the Chiefs this weekend, they could move from last to first.

Let me know if you’d like to see more of this, if you’re curious about how I came up with these rankings, or if you noticed any mistakes. Also, the table text seems to not show up with browser default dark mode. So if that's happening to you, you can switch the theme on your Lemmy profile to dark mode.

Ranking 2024 Wk3 Δ Notes
1 Chiefs -- The Chiefs beat the Falcons to keep the NFL Title Belt and first.
2 Bills --
3 Steelers --
4 Seahawks --
5 Jets +13 The Jets jumped 13 spots by beating the Patriots.
6 Patriots -1
7 Commanders +23 The Commanders jumped 23 spots by beating the Bengals.
8 Bengals -2
9 Panthers +23 The Panthers jumped 23 spots by beating the Raiders.
10 Raiders -3
11 Ravens --
12 Vikings +1 The Vikings jumped 1 spots by beating the Texans.
13 Texans -4
14 Eagles +11 The Eagles jumped 11 spots by beating the Saints.
15 Saints -5
16 Cowboys -5
17 Giants +14 The Giants jumped 14 spots by beating the Browns.
18 Browns -6
19 Rams +4 The Rams jumped 4 spots by beating the 49ers.
20 49ers -6
21 Broncos +8 The Broncos jumped 8 spots by beating the Bucs.
22 Bucs -7
23 Lions -7
24 Colts +3 The Colts jumped 3 spots by beating the Bears.
25 Bears -8
26 Packers -- The Packers maintained their rank by beating and jumping the Titans.
27 Titans -8
28 Dolphins -8
29 Jaguars -8
30 Cardinals -8
31 Falcons -7
32 Chargers -4 After the Panthers beat the Raiders, the Chargers fell to last.

This ranking assumes that there are never any fluke games and all teams are appropriately ranked. If you beat a team that is higher ranked than you, you move ahead of them and they move down one spot. However, other teams can jump in front of teams that are higher ranked than you, moving you further down the rankings.

Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan that it's "very fair" to blame him for the Cowboy's 1-2 start, as more than 70% of voters have done in a WFAA-TV poll.

Jaguars coach Doug Pederson isn't ruling anything out when it comes to making changes in the wake of his team's 0-3 start, and he was noncommittal even regarding quarterback Trevor Lawrence after a 47-10 loss to the Bills.

The two teams combined to do the impossible

During the Commanders' shocking 38-33 win over the Bengals, the two teams combined for zero punts and zero turnovers, which is almost unheard of.

Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns in a surprising 38-33 victory over the winless Cincinnati Bengals on Monday night at Paycor Stadium, a second straight victory for the Commanders.
