Checked it just now and yes it's properly seated. Checked power cables too and those are good as well. Cleared CMOS and now display defaults to 1024*768 resolution with no way to change it lol

I went from a 2600x to a 5600 (yes, MoBo is compatible after BIOS update) and now for some reasons I get 1FPS in games and monitor is not really detected (resolution is fine, but I can't change refresh rate and in "color" settings it's shown as "None-1 Monitor").

I tried:

  • monitor factory reset;
  • updating GPU drivers (was already running latest);
  • removing and purging GPU drivers (sudo apt remove ~nnvidia and sudo apt-get purge nvidia*) and reinstalling (sudo apt install pop-desktop system76-driver-nvidia);
  • resetting RAM speed to factory (2400Mhz).

Still nothing.

As you can guess from the commands, I'm running PoP!_OS and a nVidia GPU.

What else can I try?

Thanks in advance!

Issue found: I disabled secure boot from BIOS and now I can change resolution and refresh rate. Since I updated BIOS just before installing the new CPU it went under the radar

GAMMA really elevated the games imo and upped mine (our?) expectations for STALKER 2. I haven't bought it yet, but I've been watching videos about it (including raw gameplay) and I'm definitely NOT impressed (apart from graphics and level design, but for the latter I don't have the full picture ofc).

Specifically, I'm not a fan of the very, very softcore feel it has (spotted indicator???) and of the A-life, that looks awful, basically non-existent; no real weapon names; tons of ammo; no crafting? Compared to what modders achieved with GAMMA, S2 is definitely worse overall. Compared to the OG trilogy, I still think it lacks soul and hasn't improved much on it, except for gunplay (and graphics, obviously).

I'm absolutely not sold on it and I'll probably buy it only when enough hardcore/realism mods are developed, or a GAMMA2 modpack releases lol

Those are windows not W*ndows

[–] mumei 6 points 1 month ago

Oh, no I haven't tried pushing the PS button, thanks for the tip! I'll try it

Thanks. I did try just PnP but it wouldn't work. Could it be because Steam was running? I'll have to try again after closing Steam

On W*ndows I used DS4Wind*ws, and I have no issues with Steam, but how can I use it to play with RetoArch and Lutris?

Is DS4DRV the way?

The launcher works and installs almost all the necessary mods (I get a "no valid game data" flag in MO2 for 10 mods and their folder are indeed empty except for a .ini file), the game launches and plays, but inserting a weapon part into a weapon crashes the game every time.

The error message is about item_exo_device.script:21 attempt to get exo_mcm (nil value).

I fixed it by installing GAMMA in a real Windows install and then manually copying the content of the folders of those mods (just GAMMA/mods) that were flagged by MO2 from the Windows official GAMMA launcher to my gamma-launcher Linux install. Some of those flagged mods were indeed correctly downloaded by the official Windows GAMMA installer and their folders were filled with files, so I simply copied those to my Linux install.

Namely, the mods referencing exo suits and exo suits noise were the cause of my crash (no idea what installing a weapon part in a starter weapon has to do with exos).

Now the issue of part stripping and reinstalling is fixed!

I still have issues with MO2 itself (I can't activate/deactivate mods, doing so freezes MO2 and the changes simply don't stick; also running Anomaly Launcher from MO2 doesn't really work, as it actually launches only when I click Run and then CLOSE MO2), but at least the game is playable (for now).

See you in the Zone!

Also watch Shadow of the Zone by Evan Royalty on YT, pretty nice short movie set in the STALKER universe

That's a long guide! Thanks for now, I'll check it out as soon as I can!

I'm using the latest WineGE (8.26, I think) to launch MO 2.4 but some parts don't work properly, namely activating/deactivating mods (when I click on the checkbox, MO just freezes), launching the game (when I launch the game MO doesn't do anything, only when I close MO it says "something VFS" and the game starts) and actually closing it (when I do, Lutris still says that it is running, and I have to click on "Stop" in Lutris to actually make it stop).

Am I missing aomething?

I'm on PoP!_OS. Thanks!

No, yeah, I get that, I was asking about that "100% CPU usage and 70% GPU usage and if I turn details up I get a slideshow". Is this at 1440p or are you playing at 1080p?

Edit: actually, I watched some benchmarks and the RX580 should deliver some solid FPS at 1440p so the CPU is the actual bottleneck here. Go first option and that will give you a very big framerate boost

[–] mumei 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Your monitor is 1440p, are you playing at that resolution?

Currently using 12GB for system and 9GB for apps, then I have 30GB for music + documents + backups (that I mirror on PC) since I never stream anything, so 64GB would be a bit too tight for me haha

I wanted to play it again, and reinstalled everything, but I first got a shader compilation error and then, after reinstalling it again and again, an "out of memory" error.

I'm using DravenusRex's gamma-launcher. The stock Anomaly works, but after doing gamma-install and launching the game through MO I get those errors.

I tried both my previously downloaded 1.5.1 + 1.5.2 update, and letting gamma-launcher take care of everything (so downloading Anomaly + update).

Could it be because gamma-launcher installs 1.5.2 but then pulls the mods for 1.5.3, or is it the opposite (installs 1.5.3 and downloads 1.5.2 mods), or..?

The shader compilation error I was getting was about something_water.ps

Last time I used DravenusRex's guide I had no issues...

I'm playing through Lutris and I have issues with both System Wine 9.0 and WineGE 8.26 (speaking of which, no more WineGE updates, right? Shouldn't be a problem though, as the game ran almost flawlessly on WineGE 8.26)

Edit: apparently the issue is not on my end, something changed with the way files are downloaded and it causes some things to not get prpperly downloaded. Not much to do until Mord3rca updates the gamma-launcher I guess

I'm playing SSF btw

I need a stupid T4 unique that I haven't managed to drop (I did drop the ONLY OTHER UNIQUE WITH THE SAME BASE THANK YOU GGG -well at least this means that I can guarantee the one I need if I get an Ancient orb, right?- edit: no, Ancient Orb keeps class and ignores base, so I can vendor the one I dropped OK) or chance.

I missed a few years of PoE, so reading around it seems like trying Gwennen gambling is (or was) a good way to farm T1-T0, so I guess it should work for lower tiers as well? But is there a better way that you can suggest?

I'm at my wits' end, since I'm level 87 and I haven't managed to get it yet, absolutely my fault I know, but if I can't get it "soon" I will probably migrate to Trade league and buy it for 3c lol

I have a very old CPU and without multithreading I get abysmal FPS in certain encounters like Breach (which I'm farming), couple of times I hit 1 FPS, and average like 10 FPS, which often kills me.

Multithreading + Vulkan crashes the game with an engine error that apparently has no fix; DX12/11 crash the game as soon as I pick either. I think I'm running PoE with the latest ProtonGE. Any way to make it work? I don't really care about graphics at this point, if I can get 30+ stable FPS in Breaches I'm happy lol

edit:

  • nVidia GPU and latest stable GPU drivers
  • updated PoP! OS

This is my first league in years and I decided to try SSF for the first time, I'm building a pretty standard ED/Contagion Occultist that I plan to spec to Low Life if I manage to chance/drop the needed uniques (four unique pieces: Cane of Unravelling, Heretic's Veil, Shavronne's Wrappings and Presence of Chayula), of which only the amulet should be difficult to obtain since I need to drop a Blessing of Chayula, but the Atlas Passive should help with targeting Breach encounters... hopefully!

Still in acts and unfortunately I'm not dropping any "+1 to gems" equip, so damage is a bit lacking at the moment, but survivability is good and I'm moving forward at a decent pace!

What about you?

I'll be trying SSF for the first time next league and I'm looking for a guide, though not a full-fledged one, but something more akin to small tips and tricks to have an easier time in SSF, how to build your character to accomodate whatever equip you drop or manage to craft, for example.

I was planning on playing ED Occultist as it can get pretty tanky with decent clear speed even on just rares, but the uniques I'm looking at can get chanced which would be a welcome addition.

My main doubt is about six-linking... should I just abandon the idea? lol I remember trying several times and it always took a pretty hefty amount of fusings, though I've been always lucky since the one that took the most was just shy of 1000, which is something in trade league, but I bet it will be much more difficult to accrue in SSF

I'm not sure whether or not to get it because I'm not a fan of the always-online DRM (I just want to play by myself, like in the good old games, absolutely no interest in the multiplayer) and I already have that since I own all the PSP games.

I'd have to give a listen to the new songs I guess and decide based on that, since I can't play those any other ways.

I'd also buy the game and DLCs only on very deep discounts, 80% off and higher, since, well, it's basically a live service game, meaning I probably won't be able to play anymore once they shutdown the servers for whatever reason...

What do you all think?

I don’t like being able to outrun most creatures in the Zone (in what world a man carrying 30kg of equip can run faster than dogs?), so does anyone know of a mod to increase creatures’ running speed? Also, can I add it to a GAMMMA install without breaking anything?

Thanks in advance!

edit: if not a mod, I'd also take a way to manually edit a file where creatures' speeds are stored

I admit they were way too cheap for what they are (like 15% cheaper than same-size Ironwolf), so I gambled it haha there were no indications that these drives were OEM or similar.

Back to issue at hand: since I can't personally have the five years warranty on these, only the original purchaser can, and I have no way to know who they are and when they bought them, I should just return them, right? And maybe buy the next ones only from authorized sellers?

edit: also, now that I think about it, and before I make the same mistake twice, there's no way I can get enterprise drives as a normal consumer, can I, at least not brand new? I expect any enterprise drives I can find will have the same issue, i.e. bought by someone else for servers or similar, and then resold, correct?

edit 2: actually WD sells enterprise drives on their website, so my previous assumption about it was wrong
