I don't think that's how it goes, either. I mean sure, for Pride Month all the corpos glam on to it to market their stuff "to the gays" and there is the odd product line designed for them as well. But I'm pretty sure nobody is adding gay characters to video games, shows or movies, because the market research shows that it's popular now. It's still quite the opposite.

Companies would still rather have nothing that could be seen as "controversial" in their products, with the odd exception that wants to be controversial. Games, shows, movies are made by creative people and among them are and have always been queer people. They have always been pushing for representation. Over time this pushing of the envelop as well as social movements lead from characters that can be read as queer (mostly villains, though), to clearly queer coded (still mostly villains) to finally openly queer characters (only villains and side characters). Only in the last decade it has become acceptable to have openly queer main characters in media. Not because marketing pushed for it, or because it's trendy, but because queer people exist and they also work in media and they write their experiences and it has now become socially acceptable enough for them to get a little representation in mainstream media as well.

In my opinion the reason why "queer" seems "trendy" and everything seems "woke" and "political" is because we are still so used to the conservative, status quo, straight white guy/girl media that anything outside of that sticks out like a sore thumb. And, as they say, the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.

I'll start:

I like infinite combos. They just need to be more than 2 card combos. The more convoluted the better!

A couple of games ago I accidentally played an Unmarked Grave, which let's you tutor a non-legendary creature and put it in your graveyard, as if it was Persist, which let's you reanimate a non-legendary. Noticed it a few turns later, but kept it to myself, because it would have been a huge hassle for everyone.

Sometimes, when I read a new card, I get so excited of the possibilities, that I skip words and miss that they have additional conditions. Then I wonder why nobody else is talking about the card and why it's so cheap. Often I'll have already ordered a couple of copies and play them in my decks before somebody points out mid game that the card doesn't quite work the way I thought...

Not sure if it's underrated, but Sunshine (2007) is really great!

That looks cool!

Found a Colorized Version on Internet Archive as well as the Original Motion Picture Soundtrack!

Just to be clear: I saw this meme over at Lemmy Shitpost and had to repost it here...

"The Logical Song" is a song by English rock group Supertramp that was released as the lead single from their album Breakfast in America in March 1979. It was written primarily by the band's Roger Hodgson, who based the lyrics on his experiences being sent away to boarding school for ten years. Wikipedia

I don't know what it is about this song, but it always grabs me and transports me to a fantasy realm. It was a welcome surprise to see it used in the end credits of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.

A realization I had some time ago: Snoozing your alarm trains your brain to continue sleeping. You are conditioning yourself:

  1. Trigger: Alarm goes of
  2. Reaction: Push Snooze
  3. Reward: Sweet, sweet slumber

I know there was a time when I had no trouble getting out of bed. There had to be! But it's long gone. It doesn't matter how much sleep I get. I almost always snooze at least a couple of times. Even though I know these endless 10 minute naps aren't helping me. Often I feel more groggy than I did before! But what's my reaction? Snooze one more time. Maybe it'll get better.

I've wasted so much time doing this! And the worst thing is, when I finally get up I feel like shit, because I know that I just wasted another hour. I'm disappointed in myself, because I failed to get up immediately, again. How can I have a happy, productive day, when it starts with a failure in something as basic as getting up?

I've failed so many times to stop snoozing endlessly. I've used multiple alarms. Put them to hard to reach places. Used an alarm that lights up the room. Nothing worked. I've often joked that my sleepy self is a different person from awake self, because I just didn't seem to have any control over my snooze impulses. Now I know why. I've conditioned myself to snooze for years! That's why I feel like I have no control.

But I do have control! I can get up immediately! I know I do, because I've done it. I always get up just in time if there is something important I can't be late for. I'll miss my breakfast, have hardly enough time to get dressed, but I will get there in time. I even got up at 4am without an alarm once! Just to be able to play some Unreal Tournament before school (yeah, it's been a couple of years...).

I know I have the capacity to get up immediately. From today on I will use it. No more snooze! I will train myself to get up immediately. Each time I don't snooze will make me stronger. Each day I get up right away will make it easier to do so next time. There might be times I cave in, there might me times I fail. But I won't give up and over time I will succeed. I can do this! And so can you.

Edit: Here are a couple of tips to make the transition easier:

  1. Ask someone to help you get up (parent, flatmate, significant other)
  2. Write down why you don't want to hit snooze and put that on your alarm
  3. Prepare a reward for getting up immediately
  4. Physically disable snooze on your alarm
  5. When you wake up, stay in bed and do Wim Hof's power breathing (helps me immensely to wake up!)
  6. Keep a glass of water by your alarm and slam it when you wake up! It helps get you going.
