i know you said no pixel, however ... Pixel + GrapheneOS works great and easy to install.

GrapheneOS takes the google spyware out of pixel. However, it does add a slightly steeper learning curve to Android. Not too bad, just a few more options to poke at.

It doesn't cut you off from the google play store, instead sandboxing it preventing from accessing data outside its own service. This is important if you need specific apps for work, bank, etc.

For open-source apps F-Droid app store is your friend.

Unfortunately, GrapheneOS only works for pixel. There are other options you could look into such as LinageOS, but those goes beyond my personal knowlage. Specifically you want a phone that allows you unlock the bootloader.

Avoid Samsung like the plague.

Any version of Android that comes pre-installed is going to have Google Spyware and bloat. Manufactures, especially Samsung, spin up their own version of Android so then you have both Googles bloat and Samsung bloat.

...we already are in one?

Yes, the "best purchase" questions are a bit frequent. However, where else can you go these days? Facebook? Amazon Reviews? AI article #28462? Paid YT influencers?

Forms like Lemmy are one the last places you can ask and get reasonable honest human answers for purchase advice. Reviews and troubleshooting are last 2 reasons I go to reddit, and even then reviews over there can be iffy on mainstream stuff.

The man didn't even make it to the mainland. He landed in Cuba, thought it was India, murdered a bunch of natives, and stole their stuff.

So not too different from the British Empire, except they knew when they were in India.

No this can still work, hear me out. He just has to call the cops first.

When they show up, they will instinctively assume its one of those "donut on a string" eating contest and gobble em up.

The solution is Settings -> Account preferences -> Show read posts?

I've posted a few time, but the post list always remains empty for some reason.

I can see other people posts on their profiles.

Basically looking a calandar that stays on the deaktop, and can show events (Otherwise I'd just use a wallpaper). I don't need much interaction with it, if any, essentially just open the actaul calandar program. Sync with iCal is a big plus.

While FOSS is ideal, I'm open to anything free (that can be firewalled or is actually private (unlikely, I know))

I found one that used windows 7 widgets, but it was too small and didn't seem to work right anyways.

Android Tablets (self.android)

Does anyone have good experience with android tablets, and possibly replacing the OS? I see some interesting options from Google, lenovo, one plus, etc... I imagine the pixel one will be the easiest to load a new OS to, but I also wonder about the tablet support of things like lineage or graphine.

The hardware doesn't have to be groundbreaking, just good enough to be my "travel laptop" for movies, comics and general interneting. I don't want a laptop, as I often like to sit in chair/bed to read comics or watch movies and a keyboard would make that awkward.

One of my main concerns is the update support - my iPad has been getting updates since 2017, a lot of the android manufactures are promising a pathetic 3 to 5 years. I don't want to be "software bricked" in 5 years (I.e apps eventually requiring an Android version I cannot update to)
