Definitely. The facts that it's centralized will eventually lead to ads anyway. That's why they can't throw millions at something like Mastadon or Lemmy, because that would mean they can't control it when it's mass adopted.

If they want to keep existing they are going to need to make money somehow. Cosmetics and power user features without any ads would be the most favorable, right?

It's that or donations, I guess. But with the people running it, I don't think they'd crowdfund a lot of money.

The reason:

This is done to “recalibrate” estimated capacity. In other words, your phone needs a full charge so you can get accurate data regarding estimated battery life and to prevent any issues/bugs.

It's a bad thing not because it's finite: your body makes hormones when it deems necessary. The issue is when you regularly have high levels of those hormones, it will cause effects like weight gain, fatigue and skin issues, to name a few.

Your heightened sense is a temporary mode at the cost of other functions of your body. Going back to your analogy, hormones influence things like a bunch of presets on your motherboard. Your body cranked up the CPU because you didn't have enough sleep, but this will cost you in other areas like your immune system.

Unlike a computer, we can't simply draw more energy from the wall to crank up the settings permanently. So these hormones/presets helps your body focus on what you need the most at that point, redistributing your available energy.

Your body is producing hormones like cortisol and adrenaline to make it through the day. These hormones help with alertness in general.

mm I like this, you made it sound so simple!

If you flip a sine wave upside down (shift it 180 degrees), it can mean "1." If the wave stays as it is, it can mean "0." This flipping happens really fast, creating a pattern of 1s and 0s. That's your data.

A special receiver then measures the wave's shifts and turns them back into the original 1s and 0s.

Instead of just flipping the wave or not, you can also shift it by smaller angles:

  • No shift (0°) = 00
  • Small shift (90°) = 01
  • Bigger shift (180°) = 10
  • Biggest shift (270°) = 11

This way, each wave can carry two bits of data instead of one, making it faster.

Honestly, I have no idea what to do with all the drive bays now that I've been on M.2 for a few years. I remove them because it tells me that's better airflow, but what are some nice options?

I can try and stuff my cat in there, but I'm afraid she's too big

I guess, but it didn't come with the Steam Link. They all released at the same time (Steam Machine, Steam Link, Steam Controller) so maybe they are conflating that.

It streamed games from a PC to a TV, ran 1,500 0f them natively, offered a strange (if somewhat lovable) little controller,

I have one, but I don't remember it having a controller or running 1500 games natively. Or am I reading this wrong?

Not my comment, but exactly how I feel about it:

You mean like how Apple's Vision Pro "rejuvenated" the "stagnant" VR headset market? Ironically I've been saying that media and analysts have been waiting to say "If only Apple would make a folding phone... then it would be good... ignoring the reality that the main block to further acceptance is the high price - something Apple is not renowned for beating.

Wait, you do by install size? What's the best game in the range 20-23GB, about what I have left on my SSD?

Sorry for the quality, it's a rip from instagram

Summary

The Dutch ban on exporting F-35 fighter jet spare parts to Israel can remain, according to the Supreme Court’s senior legal advisor. Advocate general Paul Vlas stated the appeal court was “justified in concluding that there is a clear risk that Israel’s use of F-35 fighter jets could lead to serious violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza.” The export of military goods must be prohibited under international agreements if such a risk exists.

NGOs Oxfam Novib, Pax Nederland, and The Rights Forum filed a complaint, arguing that exporting U.S.-owned F-35 parts stored at Woensdrecht air base makes the Netherlands complicit in war crimes in Gaza. A lower court initially rejected the complaint, but an appeal court ruled in February that the risk of serious violations of humanitarian law is undeniable. Although the advocate general’s opinion is not binding, it is often followed. The Supreme Court will decide soon.

I generally browse "new" a few times to find new and interesting content, but this also means I will encounter a bunch of things I'm not interested in or simply don't understand, i.e. a regional community from another country.

I can use the filter option to filter the instance, community or user, but if you navigate to the community you can also hit "block".

What's the difference between these two, functionally?

Dungeon Clawler is out! (store.steampowered.com)

Official description: Dungeon Clawler is a Roguelike Claw Machine Deckbuilder. Build your deck, grab weapons and items from the claw machine to battle enemies, discover powerful perks that create game-changing synergies and unleash crazy combos as you fight your way through the dungeon!

My take: I played the demo earlier this year and it was a blast. I'm really enjoying the "roguelite with a gameplay twist" fad at the moment with Ballionaire, Balatro, Solitairica, and now Dungeon Clawler.

The name of the game is absolutely not SEO-friendly, although it's a good name it's incredibly hard to find with search engines for some people. (Especially because Google likes to show you what Google thinks you are looking for, as opposed to what you are saying you're looking for)

At €/$ 8.99 (10% launch discount) this game is almost a steal. It's also on mobile for €/$ 4.99

I don't mind politics, but I do mind:

  • AI generated images
  • Porn
  • Anime models (all the "moe" stuff)
  • Something that combines above (like thirsty AI-generated anime models)
  • (RSS) bots that post links but there's never any discussion in the threads
  • Non-English content that I can’t read or local content that doesn't apply to me
  • Games I don't play (anymore) or will never play

Is there an easier way to curate content? Browsing "new" is like whack-a-mole.
