Ah yeah, I spent a lot of time listening to his stuff years back. He does have a way of describing things and getting ideas across that I think really hit home for a lot of different people, I like that about him. He's always good for expanding your thinking for a bit. Have you read the book Be Here Now by Ram Dass? I think a lot of the tone of Watts' stuff and that book come from a similar place.

I just finished "Meditations on the Tarot: A Journey Into Christian Hermeticism". This was one of the most challenging but rewarding books I've read, it took me almost a year of intermittent reading to finish it. It is very dense but also very interesting. The author works through the major arcana of the tarot, treating them as symbols and analogs for lessons or challenges on the spiritual path. The book therefore has nothing really to do with the act of reading tarot or cartomancy but rather uses the cards as a medium to explore esoteric ideals contained within. At the same time he draws parallels between the teachings of saints and sages of the Christian faith, the Jewish Kabbalah, as well as exploring ties with many eastern concepts from Buddhism or Hinduism. Absorbing these thoughts and concepts in the way they are presented here often lead to a sort of intuitive awareness of the ideas which felt altogether revelatory - a sort of aha! moment which occurs over and over throughout, allowing a gentle refinement of perspective to the point that by the end of the book I feel genuinely refreshed and appreciative of religion and spirituality in a new way. While at times the author does place the Catholic church in the highest esteem, as a non-Catholic I can nonetheless both admire his love for his faith and also recognize that the wisdom contained here transcends the need for a particular religious perspective aside from the love of truth and submission to divine experience.

I’m working through Star Trek, watched TNG and DS9 and on Voyager now. I’ve always been aware of it but somehow never realized how good it is! Which is nice because now I feel like I discovered a treasure trove, there are so many shows and movies.

This looks like the game I wanted Stellaris to be. Really psyched! Also it's pretty cool you can play as the Cardassians.

My dream Star Trek game is basically this as an overworld game plus away missions with XCOM style combat...

They're both piracy communities on separate lemmy instances. One is on lemmy.dbzer0.com, one is on lemmy.ml. As both those instances are linked, the communities can interact with each other freely. Hope that helps.

The Visitor is probably my favorite, and in the running for my favorite episode. I remember when I put that episode on, innocently all ready to enjoy another episode of DS9… 45 minutes later I’m basically sobbing in front of my tv lol. The beautiful thing is it probably wouldn’t have hit as hard if they didn’t do such a great job of setting up Jake and Sisko’s relationship leading up to it. Not to mention the performance from all three actors. Watching their faces as they interact with one another is incredibly convincing and just pulls you fully into the scenes emotionally.

I’m enjoying it for the most part. One recent choice forced a A or B choice where I really thought some compromise or alternative should’ve been an option, and kinda dulled my enthusiasm a bit. But I do find the settings and immersiveness engaging, and there’s a definite Trek feel to many of the plot points and concepts. I’m really looking forward to the new strategy game btw!

I'm having an issue and wondering if it's something with the way the site works, or just me.

When I access a community that isn't on my instance through my instance (for example, I am accessing this one although my home instance is lemmy.world, so the URL is https://lemmy.world/c/[email protected]), I don't see all the posts or comments on that community, only certain ones. I know this because when I then access the same community through it's instance (so for example, if I go to the URL https://lemm.ee/c/support and view it, not logged in) I see posts and comments that I can't through my instance. An example is the recent post here "How Come I don't see most comments?" - when viewing it without logging in, I see the comments on that post, but when viewing it through my instance while logged in it appears there are no comments on it and it even says zero comments. Sometimes whole posts are missing. Is it supposed to be this way?

I checked the language settings and have both Undetermined and English highlighted.

Thanks for any help

I'm in my mid-30s and live in southeastern USA. About two years ago some changes in my life instigated what might be called a spiritual awakening of sorts. Up until that point I'd been exploring various religions and belief systems throughout my life, but ultimately never found anything that I could commit to believing in with complete faith. I was raised Christian but left the church in my teens, and spent a lot of time learning about Buddhism and other eastern religions. Finally, one day, something just clicked, and my whole perspective was shifted. For a while I began diving into non-duality and absorbing all the information I could related to the perennial philosophy, to hermeticism, to advaita vedanta, etc. I've since settled on a broader view of what is basically Omnism... I find truth echoing through the heart of most religions, and I'm fascinated to see the different ways this divine truth manifests in myriad forms. I hope to continue expanding my awareness while helping others to do the same, and with that intent I look forward to meeting like-minded people in this community!

I'm watching through it now for the first time (I already worked through TNG and DS9). I'm liking it a lot more than I expected, given what I'd heard about it. I really like the premise, and Janeway is a badass. Plus even the characters that others don't seem to like as much, I enjoy. I'm about halfway through season 4 and I have noticed a drastic increase in quality of the episodes too, lots of cool stuff going on, and Seven is awesome. I started calling Janeway Insaneway in my head after a couple of stunts she's done.

Yeah this is how I feel. If you go in without expectations it's pretty enjoyable, I liked it for what it was.
