Not gonna lie, I'd still love to eat that donut.

Should've used one of those photos of McDonald's where they look at an ad for a menu item and then show a sad photo of the real thing.

I mean you could eat a pizza and eat your daily serving of vegetables, but despite the memes from 10 years ago I don't think anyone would seriously consider a pizza to be a vegetable.

You could also just take vitamins and fiber supplements and do the same thing. If you drink a smoothie of multivitamins and metamucil, have you eaten your daily serving of vegetables?

This is also the art used for the cover for Edward Said's book Orientalism. A good read, even if newer postcolonial scholars have improved on his ideas since then.

I don't think it could due to double jeopardy laws. It's illegal in the US to charge someone again for a crime they've already been convicted of.

I think the distinction you're thinking of is when something is milled. Wheat is milled into flour. Rice is milled to remove the husks. Corn is milled into meal. At that point you're not eating the plant, you're eating a processed plant product. Of those three, corn is the only one that can really be eaten as-is, so perhaps the distinction of when it's a grain or a vegetable is more about if it was dried and milled first.

But all of that seems unrelated to potatoes, which are roots. You can make bread out of potatoes, and I don't think anyone would try to argue that potato bread somehow counts as a vegetable. But a potato on its own, minimally processed and eaten relatively whole, seems to fit the definition of a vegetable by most definitions, culinary or otherwise.

Hey, they'll do something! There will be plenty of congress drones on network and syndicated news who are more than happy to share the root cause of this tragedy as anything from video games to trans right to (shockingly enough) maybe even guns. There will be many calls to action (action pending).

And we can't forget the effectiveness of thoughts and prayers in these trying times.

Could this be a dog?

Starches are just something a vegetable has, though, not something they are. Like protein and fiber.

If you exclude anything with starch from being vegetables, you're also excluding beans, squash, lentils, carrots, peas, parsnips, corn, etc.

Just curious, what would you define as a vegetable?

How this conversation would go with my aunt I don't speak to anymore:

"This news doesn't mean anything, he was probably coerced by Pelosi's thugs and bribed by Soros to plead guilty and protect the Biden crime family."

"So you share similar thoughts about all of the other guilty confessions that the police coerce out of people?"

"What? No way, that's different, they're criminals!"

It made me happy, and then sad at myself for having to question if this was AI generated or not.

I have so little trust these days, I had to watch it 15 times through to confirm that there was visual consistency with the background objects and therefore the video is probably real.

I was able to comment in these threads from my PC via the Alexandrite frontend, but attempting to view those comments via Sync displays "Could not load post" with an option to Retry, which does not succeed.

Post 1 appears visible when opening the community, but opening the post displays the same error. Post 2 (the sh.itjust.works link which is posted on a lemmy.world community) the post does not appear in the community at all in Sync.

Confirmed that these communities/users are not blocked on my account, and no filters set within the app should apply to these posts either.

Lot of helpful advice in a beautifully formatted checklist. Don't forget to make a copy if you want to use this for yourself!

Aorzia has gotten a bit stale lately, hasn't it?

When Samsung last updated One UI several months ago, myself and many other Samsung users (and Pixel users on Android 14 as well, judging by the replies) encountered a bug where swiping posts closed showed only a black background until fully closed, after which the content one would expect to see would appear.

Last night, One UI updated to 6.1 on my device, and when I used Sync this morning, I noticed that the black background bug is no longer happening.

!Unfortunately I now need to re-learn my navigation gestures because Samsung apparently thinks it's fine to force people to completely re-learn how they navigate their phone overnight...!<

Seen on a comment today, this user with an Arabic username, written right to left, is rendered in between the points value and label text in Sync, rather than to the left of the value as expected.

As one of the (probably few) FFXIV players who actually has access to an Xbox Series X, it is a bit disappointing that there is no way to participate in the beta.

Hope the people who have an Xbox and are interested in FFXIV but didn't pick it up yet for any other platform enjoy the beta. All 10 of them.

From the Fanfest keynote, the 6.55 update will come with a full 24-hour downtime while they work on replacing the JP server infrastructure.
