I learned some lessons from elders a long time ago that the one thing they wished they had done differently is spend more time with family and friends. Helping someone is an extension of that and truly makes me happy. Nothing else gives as much meaning.

American, love Disney for the reasons you said. We go every few years since we all enjoy it. They go to great lengths to ensure it feels magical every time.

Branch manager at a 3 trade business (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical). Very much enjoy beating the competition and taking all of their great talent because they can’t treat them well. It’s not hard to actually give a damn about your people. Turns out, if you do that they like working for you and end up performing even more.

Branch Manager for a 3 trade company. 30% of my job is to recruit new techs. Apart of that is to take them to lunch/dinner, outings, etc to get to know them and see if they’d be a good fit.

No. I live to help people and continue making connections. I wouldn’t want to change that.

Stuff like this really needs sourcing.

No idea, I moved away and moved on. Have a great life. Don’t care what the others are doing. Hope they’re well.

Wife does the same thing. She wears it all but for an hour in the morning while getting ready. I HATE wearing mine overnight. I’m device free, but I also sleep great so I don’t bother tracking it. Makes a great alarm clock. Battery life for both of us has never been an issue.

I live in an at will employment state and have been a manager for quite some time. I’ve never seen an employee actually terminated for their protected status race, religion, etc. It’s always been because they had poor performance and/or attendance issues and didn’t want to get better. If you aren’t a solid average then it’s develop up or out. This isn’t my POV, this is the reality of the performance conversations I’ve been involved with. Personal accountability is a major problem these days. If you have none then you won’t have a job for long. The good news is that if you’re solid in those areas then you will be valuable to your employer. This is why so many military applicants get picked up. They have a basis for attendance and completing the mission.

Having said that, I’m sure you’re correct and discrimination does happen because their employer lied. I just think that it doesn’t happen quite as often as believed. Many poor performers I’ve known have outright lied about why they were actually terminated.
