Checkers. You start with only one piece type and they go to the trouble to make all those squares and you only use half of 'em.

I can't help myself, but I think I've got a spare hitchikers guide lying around here I can let you have. You can also have a towel if you want one.

Don't know how long it would take to break into the safes and don't want the cops to arrive early.

If you need to move around faster, you could see about getting a squire to follow you bashing some coconut halves together. I hear it can be quite effective, if you can get your hands on one, that is.

Not sure this is what your asking, but the Auckland Symphony Orchestra played Sandstorm. https://youtu.be/H9r597vJbSQ .

Edit: Ive now realized orchestra and opera are different, but leaving the comment.

So your saying coffee is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be.... unnatural?

This is the last ad that had me paying full attention when it first came on. It was ran during the football finals season and they made two cuts, one for NRL and one for AFL. https://youtu.be/gbMeKMkE_mk

Thanks. It was RAID5, so "parity" drives gone.

Once the datas off, I'll take out all deices and have a look around inside and see about the fans.

The nas isn't the only storage on site, there's a smaller bought new single drive nas, but it can't store everything and some things went straight to the bit bucket.

I'm liking your plan. Something like a 10gb, and run it single plus probably keep two 3's as raid 1 and manually copy data between them.

Requesting advice/ recommendations for steps forward. Is the NAS cooked? Could I upgrade the drives and still get some life out of it?. How likely is it just a single bay (not the disk) failed on the nas?

All of the system was bought second hand about 2 years ago but factory wiped. Drives look like they've got 4-5 years runtime on them before I bought it.

I've got a 4 bay nas it has 4x3TB drives in it. A few days ago there was an issue with Bay 1 where it lost sync or something. I pulled it out and put it back in and removed it from the volume and re initialized it and it came up good.

Yesterday the light for bay 1 didn't come on and system showed as degraded.

I tried to fault find by swapping the disks in bays 1 and 2. And I think it gave light on bay 1 but am not sure. I'm not in a position to try again as priority 1 is to make a copy of all data on the nas as-is.

When I put everything back as it was bay 2 came up with a partition error, so I stopped fault finding and started data copying.

My plan is to remove all data and then fault find to see if drive of bay is the issue and then possibly re initialized a volume with bays 2-4 as raid 5. But there's part of me saying once a failure has occurred there's likely to be a second one soon.

Edit: I also got a warning about increased fan noise but it didn't sound louder to me.

Thanks in advance.

Looks awfully like one of the bandits who engaged in shenanigans on the enterprise during the baryon sweep.

We have the brick for declining En Passant,( not sure why though cause it’s forced).

So, one of the Emus was playing a game recently. He had two pawns on an edge, let’s say a6 and a7. Kings on a8, and one of the opponents pieces is on b8.

So, I… The Emu has a flash of brilliance and decides promoting to a Queen isn’t what’s going to happen and instead chooses a War Tower.

Welp. King just moves into the empty space. Several moves later GG.

Should there be a penalty for incorrectly under promoting and it costs the game, and if so what should it be? Asking for a friend.

Thanks to everyone who participated.

This was an open game of Chess where the top legal comment directly to the post decided the next move. The game also included Knooks who stood in for Kingside bishops who went on vacation at the start of the game.

Like how the Queen can move like a Bishop or a Rook, A Knook can move like a Knight or a Rook and it has the Algebraic notation symbol of O. On the board, it looks like they have a K tattoo. Pawns can also promote to Knooks.

Ne4 can be immediately captured by either the pawn or the Horsey

Of1# is a main threat. With nothing else able to capture the Knook, the only valid defence would be to move the King.

Ke1 results in mate in 1 via Of1#

This leaves only Kd2 and Kf2.

Kf2 isnt a major advantage as King cannot capture either Knook or Horsey and a Rook capturing the Knook would be captured the move after by the Horsey. Kd2 doesnt look much different.

If people wish to continue, they could host a game over at https://lemmy.world/c/anarchychessgaminglounge

I also made another community for developers to talk about projects and adding AnarchyChess rule implementations to real games at https://lemmy.world/c/anarchychessdevelopers

This game came about because i wanted to try and hack up a game with Knooks as a fork from Dreamchess, an open source Chess game with 2D and 3D boards and pieces. I succeeded and called the project "DreamyDesktop" there is a repository at https://github.com/PossibleEmuWrangler/AnarchyChess-DreamyDesktopPrototype .

That repository contains functional code i downloaded and verified on a Raspberry Pi 400 but i consider it in sunset mode and will get around to putting those updates in a true fork of Dreamchess at https://github.com/PossibleEmuWrangler/AnarchyChess-DreamyDesktop

If there is interest, i would consider hosting another game here, this one would be on a move a day cycle with "fixed" times of each side having roughly 12 hours to move and variance to give me flexibility to update.

Adding more rules like il vaticano and Knight boosting would be considered although the rules would be locked in before the game starts. It wouldn't kick off for atleast a week.

People would be encouraged to take a side and play on that side for the duration of the game.

Leave a comment if you would be interested.

Ive updated the code and documentation at https://github.com/PossibleEmuWrangler/AnarchyChess-DreamyDesktopPrototype after being able to successfully download the dreamchess source to a raspberry pi400, apply the AnarchyChess-DreamyDesktop code as a "patch" to dreamchess and then compile and run it using the package management program dpkg. Version 0.8.6

Ive updated the AnarchyChessReadme of that repository with command line instructions i used to build it on the Raspberry Pi.

That now brings the Prototype repository to a close. Im not likely to respond to any issues raised there.

I am midway through uploading the changes made to a real fork from dreamchess and made a branch and was about to merge the branch with uploads until i saw that upstream had made changes supporting UTF code which i was about to undo.

I'll spend some time rolling in code changes to a new branch and make another post here when AnarchyChess-DreamyDesktop v0.8.7 is available on the new repository. v0.8.7 is the same codebase as v0.8.6 aside from code reflecting changes in version numbers.

A slight spanner got thrown in the works with the open game im running on AnarchChess as a Bishop came back from a vacation and i had to code up a new starting position to the board.

I might focus on creating documentation next on how to incorporate more moves in PGN and their effects/outcomes/PGN notation so that different pieces might still be interoperable. It would be interesting to get dreamer working so that it could move a knook. but thats a long way off yet.
