Like a planned economy?

[–] Brainsploosh 5 points 16 hours ago

Oh don't get me wrong, it's a thoroughly unjust system. That is just their argument for perpetuating it. (I could definitely have phrased it better)

And I also believe it's rigged.

Which means that the only way to win is to break the rules, or play a different game, which sounds more ominous than intended. But I do believe we need to do away with capitalism, or the very least capitalists. Either the $1 billion "you win" cap, or just a wholly different way of economic organisation. Other options are available, but few are as civil.

[–] Brainsploosh 5 points 16 hours ago

Agreed. It's very hard to beat the system from within. And their arguments only make sense within it.

Now if only there was a way to break the system... 🤔

Oh, sorry for being unclear. I'm not USAmerican, I have no love for the dems other than that they're not the GOP; not actively promoting fascism, enacting pogroms, or dismantling human rights.

I'm an activist. And I currently teach, support and organise people to take an active role in their community.

I know from experience that change needs nimble and concerted action, and on a grassroots level resourcefulness to find the actions that work.

I'm not saying the dems nor others aren't doing what they think is best, I'm saying that you should too. And maybe repeatedly petitioning the people you don't believe capable of helping might not be the best use of your efforts.

Unless it is all you can muster, at which coming to terms with that will almost certainly help both your mental well being and sym-/empathy for other action which will in turn benefit the change.

Which is precisely the argument they give for why capitalists are needed, and thus warrant recompense (at the expense of the worker).

Another answer to persistent impact is communality. Your actions echo in the people and places you've shared with others.

The laws, traditions, buildings, sentiments, norms, societal wounds, environment, relationships, etc. all come from people doing things during their lifetime. You can be one of those people, and choose what your contribution and legacy could be.

What will you leave for the next generation?

You can't affect if your consciousness will live on or not, but you can affect your conscience. Maybe start there?

I mean, the counter-argument is that nothing is stopping you from creating such a co-op today. You not doing it is seen as a point in favor of capitalism/ruling class.

Show them wrong?

The article is "Trump truthed" rage bait.

The "cheating" is on the original USMCA where Canada has imposed steep tariffs on dairy products over a certain quota.

You'll know your body best, but it does take quite some effort to take in and process information.

On very tired days I typically only review my notes (to keep up the SRS) and/or do some admin. Also I try to make sure it's not only studies having to compromise when my energy is flagging.

I'm not in the US, but it seems to me that the Republicans keep breaking norms and procedures, including politicising impeachment and ignoring illegal, immoral and plain bad conduct.

They also seem to be fine with not applying the same standard across the isle.

On the other hand, either Democrats follow new precedent, with even more devolving, or they keep the old decorum and get their asses kicked by Republican foul play.

What ways out of this spiral are there?

What's your favorite pick-me-up? (self.casualconversation)

Sometimes one just doesn't have the energy to do what needs done. How do you manage it?

I've been asked to make a Thai Red curry with chicken for a larger party, and they've asked for the soup to be of variable spicyness.

I was thinking that maybe I could do the soup mild, and have an additive with extra spice.

I could go with chilli oil ofc, but I'd prefer to have the richness of the red curry flavors if possible.

Is there a good way to make some kind of red curry seasoning? Do I just offer the guests red curry paste to mix into the soup, or should I mix it with something?

Scaling preparations (self.smallbusiness)

What do you do to prepare for scaling up?

We're a B2B engineering consultancy mostly selling hours and are currently gearing up to hire our first full timers beyond the founders, and boy is it scary.

We've identified a path to on-board and train them, and feel confident about that at least.

But how do you navigate taking on the extra workload so as to not overwhelm the existing staff, but also not having too little work with an extra salary to cover?

What systems should/can we prepare for quality management, book keeping, invoicing, quoting, etc? Our ideas currently seem either too heavy handed or too flimsy to scale with the 50-100% growth.

How much are we overthinking, and what are we forgetting?

I'm looking for new reading recommendations, specifically for stuff applicable to B2B technical/engineering consulting.

We're a small business selling engineering hours for a niche building discipline (noise design/acoustics engineering), and I find it difficult to apply many of the most common books to our situation.

I'll happily take any recommendations you have, especially about growth, early organisation, and first employees. But anything on topic would be awesome.

When replying to a post or comment I get the option to save my draft if ever I exit the reply. Stupendous feature!

But I'm pretty sure I've forgotten to go back at least some times and will have unfinished drafts saved somewhere.

Is there a way to check on these and/or remove these?

Do they get auto-removed, and when?

Or will they be stuck clogging up my device data until the end of times?

In the sidebar you can choose Subscribed/Local/All in the top bit, and then again in the comms list.

On top of this, Local and All show up twice in the comms list on one of my accounts.

When logging out and in, my Favorited communities are removed and I have to add them manually again.

Bug: My subscriptions don't show up on any of my accounts.

After the lemmynsfw.com update I tried to access my lemmynsfw.com account but not being logged in, my subscriptions didn't load for that account.

I've since tried to relog into that account but failed, and after that I've had no subscriptions in my list on any account.

Posts still load correctly in the subscribed feed.

One of my favorite creators made a little vlog [3:33] about finding herself a stick on a gloomy day.

I just found it today, and thought it might delight this comm.

Hope you enjoy.
