The time and effort you put in to learning 3D Cad will more than pay off for you in your ability to make things you need that someone else hasn't yet made and posted online. Sure, it will be a bit of learning curve, but what are we here for but to learn and grow?

I use FreeCAD which is FOSS. There's a great series of Youtube Videos by Mango Jelly on how to use it.

Ah, solved it. Need to be logged in before it appears.

Tried out making forged carbon fiber parts. It's tricky, but satisfying.

That feature is not on the iOS version sadly.

Lemmytools is what I was hoping to find. Thank you! Installed and working great. I'll never have to see another Trump post again.

I used to think so until I realised that air and water are both fluids, except air is thinner.

This rule applies only to the AskLemmy community. A ban on US politics posts in AskLemmy makes sense for several reasons:

  1. US politics tends to dominate many online spaces already, drowning out other valuable discussions.

  2. Political discussions, especially about US politics, often become heated and polarized quickly, which can detract from the thoughtful, contemplative atmosphere that open-ended questions are meant to foster. When people discuss US politics, they tend to take hardened positions rather than engaging in genuine exploration of ideas.

  3. US political discussions often fall into predictable patterns and talking points, which goes against the spirit of having thought-provoking questions. The same debates tend to play out repeatedly, offering little new insight or opportunity for meaningful reflection.

  4. A community focused on open-ended questions should ideally have a global perspective. US political discussions can make the space feel less welcoming to non-US users who might have fascinating questions and perspectives to share about their own cultures, philosophies, and experiences.

  5. There are other communities whose purpose better aligns with discussions about US politics.

  6. People need some communities where they can engage with others and NOT have to see or think about the recent election.

Nobody wants every community to be a free-for-all about every topic. Please feel free to discuss US politics in a relevant community about the US, about politics, or about world news.

Not an open ended question. Locking.

Over 70 firefighters and 38 fire trucks are on the scene of the ongoing blaze at the Temple Court Apartments, according to Miami Fire Rescue.

A massive three-alarm fire broke out at a Miami apartment building Monday morning and an employee of the building was found shot at the scene, officials said.

The fire at the Temple Court Apartments erupted at around 8:15 a.m. on the third floor and is still ongoing, Miami Fire Rescue said a little after noon.

"On arrival, multiple residents were rescued and evacuated," Miami Fire Rescue said in post on X. Some were rescued from their apartments and others from their balconies.

I thought I'd give a quick update on the efforts to combat the spam wave.

Clearly someone wants to make Lemmy a less appealing place to be. It's a deliberate attempt to spoil the good thing that we have going here. l'll leave it up to you to contemplate the motives and timing of this attack on the fediverse.

So what are the Mods doing, and what can you do to help?

The most obvious one is that we are deleting the spam as soon as it is seen. We are checking more often, but as volunteers we can't be on Lemmy 24/7. We also have some automated checking going on. This is working fairly well, but occasionally some legitimate posts are being removed. These get restored eventually, but sometimes it can take a while for this to be actioned. If this happens to you, please be patient.

As users, we can help out by reporting spam posts and by posting quality content. Contributing to our community is the best way to make sure that it remains a safe, interesting and thought-provoking place.
