I did this on Firefox, but I suspect it may work in other browers too.

  1. Install the Violentmonkey extension. Tampermonkey or Greasemonkey will also do.
  2. Install the Lemmy tools script.
  3. Browse to Lemmy
  4. Click on the screw driver icon on the LemmyTools bar that is now visible on the Lemmy page.
  5. Scroll down and check the box next to "Content Blocking"
  6. Add your block words in the "Add filters seperated by commas." box. I typed "Trump, Vance" Voila!

This kind of filrter would be very helful if it was built into the site. Being able to block words/subjects.

Petition to add this as an actual feature that could block posts, communities, comments amd users /srs

there is a feature request for mbin to implement this. ive started noodling on the code to potentially contribute. i want it for the same reasons

While we're at it, any recommendations for a Lemmy Android client that can do the same?

Jerboa doesn't appear to have anything other than blocking by: site, community or user.

How can I do that? I couldn't find it on the settings.

I've been looking for that forever! Idk how tf I missed it. I guess because I never scrolled to the bottom, and thought it only has community filters. Thank you!

That feature is not on the iOS version sadly.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s in mine. App version 2.18.5.

[–] Bluetreefrog 2 points 1 week ago

Ah, solved it. Need to be logged in before it appears.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Would you believe me when I say that it simply doesn't appears in my screen???

P.S.: Voyager 2.18.4, by the way, not my main app but I have it installed.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's strange. I'm running same version. Someone mentioned that it's not available on iPhone, perhaps that's the reason?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

I don't think so. I'm on Android.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Voyager too for iOS users. Closest app to Apollo in the beforefore times.

[–] Stovetop 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Most third-party Lemmy apps other than Jerboa contain some form of keyword filtering. Boost, Sync, Voyager, Eternity, and more. Mlem as well if you expand to iOS.

Sadly though I don't think any of the popular desktop frontends support filtering. I don't see it in Alexandrite, and I checked Photon and mlmym as well and also see nothing indicating that is a possibility.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Boost can do that. Just go to settings and search for block it will show you an option to block words

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Does it work for you on Boost? I've blocked some communities and keywords with Boost, but sometimes they still do show up for me in New

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

For me it does work, but I am only scrolling in all never in new

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Or...

lemm.ee##div.post-listing:has(span:has-text("/Trump/i"))

Put that into your adblocker custom filters. Just change the lemm.ee to lemmy.world (or what ever instance you're on)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

How would you add more terms?
"/Trump/Musk/i" or "/Trump, Musk/i"

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You need to duplicate the whole thing and just replace the filter word with some other

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

That works, thank you so much!

[–] hohoho 3 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I know you may be exhausted hearing their names and reading the news about them. But ignoring them won’t make the problem go away or the situation any better. Don’t look away. Get angry, then find a way to get even.

[–] slazer2au 18 points 1 week ago (3 children)

True, but as a non US person I don't give a shit about US politics or personalities.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Don't forget, the US has nukes. We're everybody's problem.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We just assume you're dumb enough to nuke yourself.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

if all the nukes America has went off at once, wouldn't it be enough to destroy the planet or something?

[–] slazer2au 1 points 1 week ago

They have almost nuked them a couple times.

[–] Dasus 1 points 1 week ago

We live in a global society, my friend.

Unfortunately they affect us all.

[–] hohoho -5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Like it or not, the US has tremendous influence around the world. The rise in populism may not appeal to you, but that doesn’t mean that it may not be coming for you.

[–] IAmNotACat 15 points 1 week ago

Some people are active in their own political communities without needing the likes of their online meme communities and other peripheral interests being flooded by political discussion from Americans.

An important step towards reducing America’s tremendous influence around the world is to divest ourself from participation in their political sphere at a cultural and national level.

We don’t need to constantly validate Americans that their country is the political centre of the entire world. That’s part of the problem.

[–] slazer2au 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Again, true. But still don't give a shit about US politics and personalities.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

I don't blame you in the slightest. I'm American and I'm sick to death of the clown show.

[–] hohoho 0 points 1 week ago

That’s your choice. Godspeed

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

@hohoho
People can keep up with the situation and work to change it without also being drowned by it when trying to keep in touch with others online.

Getting angry at wading through hot takes just raises my blood pressure and wastes time I need to engage usefully irl.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Being constantly angry and circlejerking about it with other angry people won't make the problem go away either.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

you know what it will help with? my exhaustion. you cannot get 'angry' if you are completely fucking drained of energy. these people just want a break.

[–] hohoho 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That’s what they want though. They want us to be miserable and exhausted. This is our time to stand guard over Democracy so we can safely pass the baton to the next generation. Are you going to give them what they want?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I dont have anything left to give. youre not getting more blood from this stone regardless of how much you guilt trip me

[–] hohoho 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not trying to guilt trip you Mr Lucifer. Take all the time you need. Just know that some of us still have a lot of fight left in them. Feel free to jump in if/when you have the strength to show these Nazi scum what’s wrong and what’s right

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

yes, im not saying 'no' forever. but i know me and my friends who ran phone banks and did all the things need a break after the last cycle. i know we cant wait 4 years to act.. or even 2.. but were all very tired.

[–] IMNOTCRAZYINSTITUTION 2 points 1 week ago
