Venerdì Apple ha aggiornato le regole dell'App Store per consentire agli emulatori di giochi per console retrò a livello globale con un'opzione per scaricare titoli. Tuttavia, la società ha avvertito che gli sviluppatori sono tenuti a garantire il rispetto delle norme sul copyright.

Gli utenti Android possono già accedere a tantissimi emulatori per riprodurre vecchi classici sui propri dispositivi. L'aggiornamento di Apple probabilmente incoraggerà alcuni di questi sviluppatori a portare i loro emulatori sull'App Store.

La società ha dichiarato che queste app di emulazione devono utilizzare un meccanismo di acquisto in-app per offrire articoli digitali. Con Apple che deve modificare le regole dell'App Store a causa delle normative, questo tipo di giochi fornirebbe un altro flusso di entrate per l'azienda.

A gennaio, quando Apple ha rilasciato la prima serie di regole in conformità con le norme del Digital Markets Act (DMA) dell'UE, la società ha anche annunciato che avrebbe consentito lo streaming ai negozi di giochi a livello globale. Inoltre, in quel momento ha aggiornato le regole dell'App Store per supportare gli acquisti in-app per minigiochi e chatbot AI.
