The Usenet is still there! I was just using it a month ago.
Browsing Usenet feels like visiting the ruins of an Egyptian temple. It's kind of cool, but it's really not much compared to what it used to be.
Internet Boomers? There were no boomers on IRC. As always, the people have forgotten Gen X, the ones who were there, pioneering the internet, and patiently showing the boomers how to use a printer for the 987th time.
I think that was a joke about us being around for old shit like this on the Internet, not literally being boomers. Internet boomers, gray beards, etc. I'm on the older side of millennial and I remember it all because I started young lol.

I had an icq too. I have a fun anecdote about it : I lived in small village in the countryside in France and someone from Mexico contacted me, because one of their cousin lived in my village. They gave me their email and I brought it to my friend.

I put a bunch of effort once actually getting my eggdrop bot (with trivia) on discord. It worked fairly well but all the questions were made in the 90s so it wasn't as fun for the larger age range in our server lol.
It's funny. IRC always reminded of dial up BBS chat. Kids these days and their threaded chat...
