Could be outstanding, could be something you've already completed.

I like to break my goals down into a sort of ladder with the eventual goal at the top, but smaller achievements on the way. So to that end my bucket list includes such gems as:

  • Go out for a meal alone
  • Buy a fancy ice lolly without feeling guilty about it
  • Climb up the nearby hill without stopping for a break
  • Reach out to various old friends for a catchup
  • Finish reading the whole Discworld book series (I never did read the last one, iykyk)

Take a trip to Washington DC and stay there for a week. Just take in the museums.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Living past 35, which IS not easy being trans.

[–] TeaHands 8 points 1 year ago

"Make it to 40th birthday" is also on my list so I can relate. We can do this!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

37 and non-conforming here. A good support network is worth its weight in gold!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

36 ans and stabbed 2years ago. LGBT "community" IS a joke. Trans women are alone.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Shit, I’m cis but live in Texas. I’ll be thrilled if I make it to 40.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Imagine being black, a women, Muslim, disabled,or gay...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I can’t even imagine what other folks go through. I’m a white, straight, married, male, and I honestly have it tough. It pains me to know that, in the grand scheme of things, I have it easy.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Can I ask why that is the case? I guess I hadn't heard that it was so difficult before

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Stress levels effecting health and targeted violence are what I assume theyre talking about

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

absurdly high suicide rate doesn't help the average either

On one hand this makes me sad for you, because snow is excellent. But on the other that does mean you live somewhere nice and warm, and as I sit here rolled up in my electric blanket it doesn't sound so bad.

I hope you get to not only see snow, but experience the satisfying cronch of frolicking in an unspoiled patch :D

[–] Zoomboingding 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

See lava. I have a trip to Hawaii coming up :D

[–] TeaHands 5 points 1 year ago

Ooh that's a good one

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Careful though, the floor is lava

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Get enough of an emergency fund going that covers my rent and utilities for 6 months.

[–] TeaHands 6 points 1 year ago

One for everyone's list there I reckon. Good luck!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Pay yourself first.

10% non-negotiable, right into a high interest savings account before anything else. if you can set it up to deposit automatically that's ideal.

[–] residentmarchant 3 points 1 year ago

High yield savings is a HUGE thing here! We live in great times for your money to make you more money while still being risky free.

Go to the sauna and treat myself on a cold winter evening. But I have a bit of a cold, so I better wait a bit.

[–] TeaHands 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah I'm sick also, think that's why I've been looking at my list, as a way to live vicariously through Future Healthy Me. Plenty more cold winter evenings to come, anyway, there's no rush.

I have a coupon that's valid 'til the end of the year ;-)

Edit: Get well...

Experience a picturesque white Christmas. This is coming from someone in California where it's Decembe 4th right now and 76 degrees. Never experienced snow.

[–] ulemmyagain 3 points 1 year ago

we have snow dude. like you don't have to leave the state. California is huge and it snows here

Watch all of Star Trek DS9

I've watched lots of Star Trek including some episodes of Deep Space 9 but never had the chance to see it all from beginning to end.

[–] TeaHands 5 points 1 year ago

You can do it, I believe in you!

[–] captainlezbian 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Read the shepherds crown. It’s cathartic and while I’m sad the series ended it was the perfect note to end on.

[–] TeaHands 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Everyone says the same thing. I am going to do it, just rereading some of the older ones that I've not had chance to in years and then I think it'll naturally go that way.

USPSA C class or better.

I need to spend a lot more time dry firing and working on my draw.

[–] TeaHands 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Had to look up what that was! It can definitely be hard to find time for this stuff, but I'm sure you'll get there :)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

USPSA and IDPA are both a lot of fun. Hopefully never practical. :)

Unfortunately, the closest HEMA group is over an hour away, so I can't have that kind of fun any more; the time that would take just isn't achievable any more.

So a goal on my bucket list was to start a software company, but I never had the right idea.

A few years ago I was absolutely fed up with spam in my Gmail inbox and real emails in my spam box, so I developed this complex set of filters that solved the problem, but was really hard to maintain. I told my coworker at LinkedIn about it, and he was like, β€œhow do I set this up for my email?” I told him how complicated it was and he didn’t want to. But later I asked if he’d use an email service that did all that automatically, and he said he would.

I asked my girlfriend at the time if she would support me quitting my job to develop that service and basically not having an income for like at least four years. She said that if it was truly my dream, she would support me. (A couple months later I proposed and she’s now my wife. :)

So it took two years to develop, but I finally did it. Check it out: https://port87.com/

[–] hperrin 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

OP, I just reread your post, and I guess that’s not low stakes…

[–] TeaHands 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Definitely not with the whole quitting your job aspect thrown in there. But it's a really cool achievement anyway so congrats!

[–] hperrin 4 points 1 year ago

Thank you. :)

I have some really basic stuff like contacting aged family members before they die. I'm doing pretty badly at that one.

[–] TeaHands 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You do that, I'll send a message to the friends I've been putting off sending messages to.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I'll get right on it...

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 year ago

Hard part is crossing it off your list after you're done.

[–] MissJinx 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You never had a meal alone? I always go whenever I want, If nobody wants to come I go alone. I only care about what people think if they are paying my bills

[–] TeaHands 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Never have! I'm just not much of a foodie and meals out are expensive so I generally only do them with people for special occasions.

I don't think I'd be embarrassed, but only one way to find out :D

[–] MissJinx 2 points 1 year ago

oh I see, thats true!! Why waste the money. But I love sushi, and sometimes, like 2x a year tops, when I get a bomus or something, I like to go to this amazing sushi place that's kind of fancy close to me. The last time nobody could go and I didn't want to wait for company so I went alone and It was the best! When I was younger we didn't had phones like today. Today we are never all alone

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Good sleep habits...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Learn how to make the pork belly bao I got at Covent garden, it taunts me.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Get busy! You could do all but one of those in a single day. Best of luck!
