Moving from Reddit to Lemmy feels the same as playing Elden Ring after years of Dark Souls. It's essentially the same, but ever so slightly different with different names for what is basically the same shit.

[–] DJSpunTheDisc 5 points 2 years ago

Same thing, slightly different, but is still an enjoyable experience ;)

Well, I definitely like Lemmy.

I put off joining until a couple days ago since everyone on Reddit was complaining about how hard and confusing it was to set up. Had an account with some good communities set up using wefwef in like 15-30 minutes. Glad that it was so easy.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I realized it wasn't that difficult, I was just comparing it to a Reddit account I'd built up over years

Lemmy feels more like Reddit used to. Still rough around the edges, but with less... pressure?

Fewer bots, no advertising, less uhh... I'm gonna call it gentrification.

It's like visiting that same shitty dive bar in your home town that will never die, when everything else has changed.

I much prefer this, but I can see why people would want something more polished.

I think reddit gentrifying is a great way to putting it. Even if the 3PAs weren't killed, reddit had a lot of issues. I was getting really sick of the 300k karma farma bots regurgitating content all the time. I much prefer to see regular people regurgitating content on a smaller scale with no competitive ranking. Karma was cool when it wasn't farmed like plasma on a stallion ranch.

The boy thing is huge too, on Reddit there are your typical reposti-bots but also the weird comment bots people have created, and I don’t mean the Obi-Wan bots and stuff like that, but the weirder ones that steal other peoples comments, or have interactions. Kinda gives me the creeps.

Rough around the edges is part of what makes it feel like reddit used to 😅

I like how there's less people here, they seem to act more like people.

On reddit I can go to the Scotland subreddit and look at a post about local politics and is the comments there's massive arguments about transgenders or Donald Trump for some reason.

Honestly the community here so far seems sooo much less toxic than what I was experiencing on Reddit. Stoked to part of the lemmy boom and excited to see where things go from here

I certainly dislike reddit but I do like lemmy.

It's exciting watching the community grow and learning together how everything works. So far everyone I've met has been super supportive, I asked a question about where to find mod tools and someone went and commented on my communities and someone else reported them so I could see firsthand and practice!

Made my day that multiple people took the time.

I think as long as we all keep that attitude of community, and do our best to create content and participate, there's no reason why lemmy can't run circles around reddit.

[–] Dodgeit 6 points 2 years ago

So far Lemmy has been a refreshing change.

It feels more like when I first joined Reddit.

[–] jerome 11 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Both.

I sometimes get a baseball schedule while browsing.

[–] Awa 5 points 2 years ago

There's still a few bugs. I just reload that page and it seems to fix it most of the time. It seems to only happen on the internet browser/PWA. I don't seem to have that problem using apps, but those are full of their own bugs. I tend to hop between the different platforms for accessing lemmy. The devs for the fediverse instances and the apps are working relentlessly to improve user experience.

I can somewhat understand why it sometimes links to the wrong thread but I don’t understand why it’s always something about sports. Is it the same post every time? Haven’t noticed. Also I’ve seen the post at the top be whatever sports post but the comments are the ones for whatever I clicked on.

[–] emokidforever 3 points 2 years ago

So it’s not just me. Felt like I was going a bit crazy seeing that.

[–] OsakaWilson 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I swoon every time I need to edit a title...and can!

~And, yeah, we need more users.~

[–] itsJoelleScott 6 points 2 years ago

It's weird seeing text the poster wrote under links. I like it.

[–] dukethorion 8 points 2 years ago

It seems to be getting better by the day.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 years ago

I think it's both for me

[–] razorwiregoatlick 6 points 2 years ago

It’s still a work in progress. I can be patient while the community and support grows.

To quote another Matt Groening show: "A little from column A, a little from column B."

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

Haha, I hadn't thought about it from that perspective, I guess Lemmy has been a night in shining armour.

[–] BorkFart 5 points 2 years ago

It's the same stuff. I just need to get used to the UX.

The student can become the teacher. The alternative can become the primo choice

Just joined after the departure of Boost for Reddit- tried the Reddit app for about 20 minutes but was overwhelmed by the adverts so deleted it in disgust! Happy to be here.
