There's no breakfast buffet at this new place, so if you could all bring a plate to share that would be fabulous.

I've brought potatoes, help yourself to the microwave πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”

Factoid:

Sweet potatoes aren't potatoes.

They belong to the family, Convolvulaceae, common name morning glory. Potato is in family Solanaceae, commonly known as nightshade.

They are distant relatives though.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

You can eat the leaves of the sweet potato plant, the leaves of potatoes are poisonous.

I currently have both growing in my garden, they are definitely very different plants.

Wooo 🧲⚑️

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Welcome to the new world! Lemmy get you a potato πŸ₯”

Feel free to microwave it, or it looks like you've brought your own fancy induction stove you can use too.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I brought my magnetron. I am ready for potato

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Does the magnetron make it crispy? This could be the next big thing in potato cooking trends.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The magnetron is what emits microwaves.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

So it is microwave power, not contained by a microwave? You have turned the entire DT into a giant microwave, brilliant!!!

We're going to need more potatoes.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

BTW I only know about this Lemmy Brunch cause someone threw a link on the DT recently. and thank you for being a mod (whoever you are haha) It’s gonna be sparse here for a minute lol.

It's all new and a bit confusing - reminds me a bit of the old newsgroups. I think we have gotten used to lots of people and constant real-time interaction, but there is a lot of benefit to less users too, it allows you to take your time and think about things without feeling if you haven't posted something straight away it will get lost.

I'm BrightFadedDog on Reddit - in fact I am on another instance I signed up for on Lemmy too. I couldn't connect to this group from that instance for some reason so I made a new user account here (I think I could have used the same name, but didn't realise it at the time). So now I have some sort of virtual Multiple Personality Disorder. Mr Woof is also being rebranded to RustyDog and Miss Meow to RavenCat.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Haha it’s like being on holiday and running into someone you know. My account is on this instance so that’s handy.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago

Slice then pan fry in butter for crispiness. Or roast.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

The weather today is a bit miserable, definitely an indoor day. A good day to stay inside and finish my assignments.

RustyDog & I did go out for a walk, but the wind was a bit cold and it made RustyDog's hair quite wild. Not good prospects for our afternoon walk being pleasant either.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Mm, breakfast. I'll bring a plate of bruschetta, I've got a craving.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

Ooh sweet I wondered if a new DT would spring up. I humbly offer potatoes as tribute πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”πŸ₯”

I was confused for the last day about lemmy, kbin, mastodon, etc. But I think it finally just clicked and I'm excited.

Hopefully both Lemmy & Kbin devs keeps working on the user interface, it's not far from Reddit when I started using it.

I'm commenting from the Jerboa app.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

I’m doing the Mlem app which is still in beta testing. It’s nice but there’s no notifications for comment replies yet so have to revert to the webpage to see replies. Bit janky, but should be better when the Alpha version drops.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Jerboa app did not work well with my tablet, so I'm just on the web version at the moment.

It has been a steep learning curve - and I've managed to get two identities on different instances while I worked everything out. It's probably a good idea anyway, that way if one instance crashes or something I can still use the other id.

The important thing is always the users and the content they create - all the other stuff follows behind.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have found jerboa ok - better then I expected actually. And quite liking the Lemmy interface. Set up an account on kbin too but the web interface is a bit clunkier on mobile.

[–] mishellaneous 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I'm finding jerboa okay too, but still getting used to it - I'm not the most tech savvy person haha. And I'm glad I'm not the only who has created 2 profiles on 2 instances whilst trying to get my head around all this! πŸ₯΄

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Nah -best way to learn!! Accounts everywhere..

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Potatoes? My time to shine!

A sheila with a peeler? Welcome, just what we need around here. πŸ₯”

Hey guess who?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Whoever made the UI for this site is for sure an old school nerd. It feels like a site I would've made in the early 2000's.. hardcore dark mode.. tables/text way too small. Functionally it seems fine but it needs a good designer stat.

Edit: It looks way better on mobile. Not so amazing on PC with a big 4k monitor.. I'm zoomed 125% on my browser just to make it look 'right'.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 year ago

A constant work in progress. That's the beauty of a decentralised open source platform though, people will be free to design as many apps and plugins as they like, and there is noone that can scuttle that work down the line.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

Is it possible to sort by new as default?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago

I don't think there is a way to change the default sort for a community. You can change the default sorting for everything you go to under your profile settings. I've not seen anything that allows for it to be done for individual communities or for it to remember the last settings. Possibly a feature still to be developed (unless there is a way to do it I don't know, which is also highly possible as I've only been here a day!)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you're talking about sorting the comments on Jerboa, that's coming in the next version.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Funny enough it's basically the opposite. At the moment all comments on Jerboa are sorted by new, sorting other ways is coming in the next version.

I just found a picture of a rusty raven to use as my avatarπŸ™‚

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just got told after multiple interviews they’ve closed the role due to redundancies. Such is life I guess πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

Also breakfast included eggs. Always eggs.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Frustrating to have wasted that much time on interviews when they weren't really wanting anyone. It's a bit of a bad sign that different parts of the company were obviously operating in completely different directions.

I'm personally a fan of eggs for breakfast. We had potatoes and bruschetta here, eggs would work well with thoseπŸ™‚

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Yes, overall bad sign of the org’s ability to coordinate. I may have dodged a bullet in some ways, so that’s a positive!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago

Well, study is now over for a bit. I have finished the last of my TAFE assignments for the semester (I may need to fix any errors and resubmit, but should not be anything too major).

One week before the next uni subject starts, but they released the unit information with the assessment details yesterday. They have fortnightly quizzes and only a few smaller assignments which is nice. And it's all about gardening so should be very interesting and practical.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Seated for the first advanced screening session of The Flash @ Hoyts. I don't think many people knew there were advanced screenings a couple of days early.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Woah. Go in as unspoiled as possible. I won't say anymore than that. Just.. go asap and don't get spoiled by assholes posting spoilers in YouTube or article headlines because there will be many.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Got some Grilld hemburders to take home. Might continue watching Star Trek Brave New World. Captain Pike is no joke.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Ooh, I'm happy to see someone I recognise from Reddit here. Hello!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Ooo I'd forgotten about that show. Just seeing season 2 starts in a couple of days! Yay! Added to my sonarr to monitor. I also was calling it Brave New Worlds in my head but it's Strange New Worlds. Weird.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

Oh yeah shit strange new worlds I mean.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

For some reason this isn;t showing right at Kbin, signed up for another account with Aussiezone. Other than that I passed my last uni exam, time to find a job~~~
