Any new Zelda is bound to be high on lists like these, but TOTK is as close as a lock-in for GOTY as you can get.
It’s fun going back to threads from about a month before release, when the overall response was very mehh.

Game is so good that it’s almost overwhelming lol
I rolled credits but I feel like I have soooo much left I want to get to. To be honest I do miss the older zelda formula, but as a chill open world experience botw/totk are both really incredible.
I miss it too, but they did a great job of being classic Zelda into an open world. The only way they can truly top TotK is by heavy story and more dungeons, but I'm just glad to have Gleeoks and other classic enemies, dungeon monsters, and side stories.
Maybe classic Zelda spinoffs will be linear stories like Twilight Princess.
I literally got back to BOTW after playing TOTK because I felt I need MORE of that. Both are so incredibly good!

It's overwhelming to dive into and out of in short bursts of free time, which is how I generally get to play games these days. If it's anything like botw I was playing that game for over a year. I came to accept I'd never 100% it but I did end up going for all shrines
I feel I'm missing it out having it on the shelf...
I know I'm in the minority here but I could just not get into this game at all. I put about 5-10 hours into it total and I gave up.
