They have a great library but they suck at monetizing it. Their streaming service is built around Azure so MS always gets a cut out of their GaaS offerings regardless.

An example of a way they've botched this is that the PSN client on PC, which would expand their userbase significantly, doesn't natively work with the PS5 controller. That's like, the first thing they should have figured out when deploying on another platform: make your input work!

that's not what these words mean fwiw, their cloud is built around azure so microsoft get a cut of that. but it would be amazon or google otherwise. their streaming service is based around their own systems as it has to stream via real ps3's, ps4's and ps5's and has nothing to do with GaaS

GaaS is stuff like... fortnite. or Cod Warzone.

It's funny because Linux recognizes the controller totally fine and more or less always has while Windows has shit like DS4Windows. Steam also always worked as a proxy, since they had their own drivers.

Do you know if Linux supports the haptic feedback on the DualSense?

It depends on the game.

From what I understand if you are running something through Steam, the Steam drivers for the controller should parlay in between and provide full functionality. I haven't personally tested it though, I don't have space on my current install to fit Spider-Man which is one of the games that has it most optimally. My Windows version doesn't give me the haptic feedback, I know that for sure.

Fyi, haptic works for many of the supported games on PC, but only when wired/tethered, I believe.

If these rumors are true then good. Single-player games have been Sony's bread and butter for a while now. Getting their first-party studios to suddenly pivot to making live-service games was always going to have problems. Leaning on third parties and studios like Bungie makes much more sense and might actually lead to decent games in the long run. Then again this is all speculation so we'll see if Sony is actually changing anything.

My buddy and I have just gotten into Destiny 2 thanks to some free stuff I’ve gotten from PS+ over the years. Honestly, if you weren’t there from day 1, the learning curve is really prohibitive. Menus all over the place, NPCs everywhere that pretend like you know them, raids that require actual organization with people who don’t actually want to talk to you, no incentive to actually track the story, random stuff that ends up in your inventory that don’t seem to serve any purpose, a really weird leveling system, and of course a lot of proprietary vocabulary that just makes it all more confusing.

It’s a cool game, but after a month I still just have one friend and neither of us know wtf we’re doing. Had I any less patience, I would have deleted the game by now.

This is what happens when you just straight up replace early content. You no longer have a way to start from scratch, you're just dumped right in the middle.

I always wanted to get into destiny, I didn't mind what little time I spent with the first game, and I enjoyed the little pieces of the lore that I got. But once I heard there's no way for me to experience all of that story any more, I gave up on ever wanting to play the games.

What's the point of playing 1 if I can't play the immediate story beats after that game and what's the point of playing 2 without knowing what the fuck happened prior.

Particularly when all the NPCs act like you’ve been with them this whole time. Some robot dude dies dramatically in the opening sequence like I’m supposed to care, then there’s a plaque for him in the main hub area for the rest of eternity with no explanation.
