Card’s body was found in an area near a recycling center from which he had recently been fired, a law enforcement source told CNN. Earlier this week, authorities had found Card’s vehicle abandoned after the shooting near a boat launch in the Lisbon area.

[...]

Authorities found a note from Card that indicated that he did not expect to be alive when the note was found, a law enforcement official told CNN.

[...]

And while the motive for the massacre remained unannounced Friday evening, a key theory about why the bowling alley and the restaurant were targeted emerged during the investigation, law enforcement sources say.

Card recently broke up with a longtime girlfriend, and investigators are pursuing a theory that Card went to the bowling alley and the bar because they were places the couple used to frequent, law enforcement sources told CNN’s John Miller.

Being dead certainly is an effective way to evade a manhunt for a while. Anyone dead-set on carrying out a shooting should try this step first for the ultimate cloaking.

But if you're only considering murdering everyone around you and then yourself, maybe... you know... like, try talking to someone first. If that doesn't work, try talking to a lot more people until the whole making-other-people-dead feeling goes away or becomes manageable.

Also, pills taste yummier than bullets. Try pills. Pills: brought to you by the people who would like to go home to their families tonight.

IIRC, he did try that. Over the summer he was committed after claiming to hear voices, and was released after 2 weeks.

Insurance probably declined to pay so they kicked him out instead of helping him because it’s the right thing to do

If protecting shareholder profits over the well being of our citizens is wrong, I don't wanna be right.
