🍻 Well done mate. You've built a great place for us Aussies to hang out 🍻

Nice work! I had no idea what I was doing with Lemmy, but I went on r/Australia all the time so this was an obvious choice to sign up to, so glad I did.

Chiming in from Kbin too! Love to see more local stuff grow.

Great work with the server, Lodion! Top work mate!

This is amazing! If growth continues at this rate we will have over 17k users this time next year

It's exciting to be part of something new and exciting :D Let's see how that grows after the 30th!

Great job with this place. I like how it feels like /r/australia with the communities being like sub-subcommunities.

Fantastic news. Here's to one thousand more and beyond!

Hi! Newbie to the fediverse/lemmy here. (Reddit lurker refugee) Question, what's the top capacity of the Aussie server as it stands in terms of users? How scalable are these servers generally? Congrats on setting up a new community board with quick engagement!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Good questions, I'm honestly not sure. As it stands, the server has lots of scale to grow... just a matter of paying OVH more to upgrade it. I don't expect it to be an issue for us... upgrading the server is relatively quick, just requires a server reboot.

Some larger instances have previously posted their user numbers and when they've upgraded... but its in the 10s of thousands, we're a long way from that being a problem.

Expecting a jump on 1 July when all the apps go dark?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I really have no idea. On the one hand there has been so much noise about the new API rules, I struggle to see how people can't be aware of the impending death of their favourite reddit apps. On the other... some people are stuck in their own little bubbles that this news hasn't permeated, so they'll get a nasty surprise on the 1st when the apps stop working.

I'm fairly confident the aussie.zone server can handle more than double the current user count on the current hardware. And I can easily increase the specs if and when required.

Is there any way to provide donations to support the instance going forward?

Sure, check the links at the bottom of the sidebar πŸ˜€
Or at the top of this post.
