Why doesn't Twitter die together with Reddit? I wouldn't have believed that the world has this many brain dead people before the Musk Twitter takeover.

[–] Son_of_dad 30 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They keep each other alive. Reddit constantly bitches about Twitter and Elon, while linking to Twitter in every thread

[–] MercuryUprising 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because reddit content is generally pretty shit. Very few creators on the site.

Drugs Are Really Excellent

At least that's what I think it stands for

[–] GreenCrush 15 points 1 year ago

Mastodon is available. It's pretty good if you find the right people. It just needs another boost like how Lemmy just got.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

Braind dead dude who paid for a blue checkmark lol

[–] deong 10 points 1 year ago

Honestly? Because most people don't care about the "Inside Baseball" machinations of how these companies are run. And that's fine. I don't care anything about Nascar, but if 100,000 people want to pile into Alabama and watch fast traffic for three hours, they don't need my endorsement to go enjoy themselves.

[–] c0c0c0 9 points 1 year ago

Because, then, they'd all come here.

Is this your first day on the Internet?

Still good for porn

I feel like they left out the key point that his submersible went to the deepest known point on the entire planet (~36,000ft, almost 3x the depth of the titanic). it was only the fourth dive ever made to the challenger deep. and he didn't get turned into human salsa

[–] GreenCrush 34 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He also did a solo dive. Something I feel like you wouldn't do unless you were heavily involved in the community.

[–] Reliant1087 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It took him and an engineer 7 years to design and develop challenger deep.

[–] Oderus 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

and they tested the shit out of it

Love the absolutely confident ignorance in some people

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 year ago (4 children)

I know precious little about James Cameron. What I do know can basically be summed up as: He's Canadian, he's a filmmaker who made like every other major movie of my childhood, and he likes the Titanic.

Oh, and that there's a reasonable chance that he's spent more time building deep sea submersibles than he has making movies.

I'm not sure how someone would miss that last part by now.

[–] Son_of_dad 26 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I saw the aliens episode of the movies that made us. His anti worker/anti union stance and his behaviour towards the crew on Aliens, because they dared take their union mandated breaks, made me dislike him. Hopefully he's become better.

[–] MercuryUprising 6 points 1 year ago

I highly doubt it. There are shitty directors and good ones. Shitty directors never, to my knowledge, become good directors down the line.

[–] ArtVandelay 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I enjoyed Ghost of the Abyss, it's a documentary on his excursions down. Very highly recommend.

I didn't know this last part but then again I didn't question his credentials either. And even if I would, the correct thing would be to admit fault. It's okay to be wrong. It's not okay to stay wrong despite being corrected.

Poor guy should have done a 10 second Google search before commenting.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Most internet dumbassery can be prevented with this one easy trick.

[–] Finnagain 6 points 1 year ago

Moderators HATE this one simple trick!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 year ago

guilty as charged

[–] 00Sixty7 4 points 1 year ago

I feel like if everyone did this roughly half of all human communication would cease.

[–] SomeoneElse 33 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Is there a “don’t you know who I am” community yet? I really enjoyed that Reddit sub.

[–] GONADS125 12 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Make the community yourself it isn't on here yet!

[–] SomeoneElse 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I did! It’s c/dontyouknowwhoiam (or however you formar community links here). Come join!

[–] antik 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

!dontyouknowwhoiam

You can link communities by starting with an exclamation mark and typing the name of the community. Just as starting with an @ will let you link to usernames. This does not work on all mobile apps

You're welcome. Lemmy is still new so we need to help eachother out. Spread the knowledge! :)

Imagine fumbling such an obvious save opportunity: “Yeah, like I said, noted submarine expert.”

Oh so everyone who knows a lot about something is an expert in that matter now? Ar3 yOu h1S puBlIC1st?

One thing I learned pretty fast in life, a lot of people are a lot more knowledgeable than you in a lot of things. Get to know them before you make an ass out of yourself.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 year ago

fuck yea baby lets go blue checks!

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 year ago

Blue checks are supposed to get paid for ad views soon? That can only encourage nonsense to go through the hole in the roof, caused by all the previous nonsense going through the roof

[–] FartsWithAnAccent 9 points 1 year ago

human salsa

Damn.

[–] STUPIDVIPGUY 8 points 1 year ago

The nice thing about sarcasm is that when you're wrong you can just pretend you weren't being sarcastic!

Also he directed the 1997 film Titanic. The OST by Celine Dion became the iconic mourning song.

[–] Bourff 6 points 1 year ago

That brought back unpleasant memories, I thank you not :(.

[–] expatriado 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)
