Right on the nose. My wife sent me the news when it broke and my response was… “again?”

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 year ago (2 children)

isn't his shtick to generally offensive?

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 year ago (1 children)

He is an edge lord, yeah. Although he sometimes he tries to appear like there is some greater message behind all of that. Like he is a jester with wit, but he is just a clown.

nah he went full on right-wing conspiratard, his videos are enraging, covid consparices, blaming the west for Russia invading Ukraine

he is a fucking cunt, I am not gonna search for his videos and post them here, because last time I watched some of his shit I felt like curb stomping that fucking wanker.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 year ago

Yeah, if you lost track of him after Get Him To The Greek when he was still sorta vaguely leftist but in an annoying rock star party boy way, well, I guess that act stopped getting him enough attention, because he went right wing shitlord at some point.

I think that grift is easier to run on a narrower audience.

As someone who thought he was a cunt since he popped up on our screens in the UK, and then a cunt with a child's understanding of politics doing more harm than good in 2015 when he stuck his oar into the election, it feels good to finally be validated these last few years.

I remember seeing videos of him "flirting with" women interviewing him and he was being a straight-up creep, and would not take the hint when rejected.

Then I saw some conspiratorial shit from him recently, no clue what it was, I just remember thinking "well he went off the deep end".

What a POS.

He has a good turn of phrase and is a good speaker. His views are often more teen edgy than practical, or, they were. Think 80s anarchism and pink in the UK but in the 00s and with an Oliver twist sensibility.

Last number of years, he's gone from hard left to hard right and crazy conspiracies.

He was always attention seeking and made it look like it was a statement rather than obnoxious. He moved into obnoxious as a brand.

He has always been relatively open a out addiction to hard drugs and sex acts. Previously he insisted they were consensual. Howeythere has always been an underlying current that they were not always. He seemed contrite in his sober state but it was always dubious.

“He waved his hands enough in that video for me to consider him innocent.” - Gregory Marsh, Animal Control Officer

“I would stake my reputation on the fact that Russell Brand is a good man.”

Andrew Tate, Trafficker

“Look, I don’t know what to tell you, I love sexual assault and I hate women, and that’s just how it is.”

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I recognized Andrew Tate and (obviously) Russell Brand in there. Were any of the others real people? I'm bettng there were probably at least a couple others I'm just too out of the loop to recognize.

[–] gibmiser 1 points 1 year ago

Not that I noticed but who fking knows

My favorite was the last:

"His long hair and tight pants make him too feminine for me to view him with any empathy."

[–] SaakoPaahtaa 45 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Man, I've made 4 sexual predator predictions of which now 1 (kevin spacey) is convicted, 1 is suspected (brand) 2 to go (jared leto and quentin tarantino, you old perv).

I should do this for a living

All of his movies are just filler for his foot fetish.

[–] Soulg 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That has literally zero bearing on whether or not he's a predator. Jesus christ.

[–] Nurse_Robot 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I respectfully disagree. He isn't even hiding the fact that he has a foot fetish and uses his power dynamic to coerce actresses to do whatever he wants to them. His actions paint a portrait of someone I would suspect of being a predator.

[–] RobertOwnageJunior -3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yes, except in this specific case that isn't what happened at all. This scene was pretty much improvised. Still a creep, though.

[–] Nurse_Robot 3 points 1 year ago

Why do you think it was improvised? Can you show me something that supports that?

I had no idea about Jared Leto. I was a huge 30 Seconds to Mars fan. This article, if true makes me upset I thought so highly of him.

[–] RobertOwnageJunior 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because he can sing? He was always a huge creep.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Well, 30 seconds to mars had some really good albums. I didn’t know much about Leto beyond his music.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 year ago

Is Kevin Spacey convicted yet?

[–] jennwiththesea 25 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I genuinely did!! Or at least that he'd been credibly accused and everyone already knew that. I've been very confused by some people's reactions to this news.

[–] Ejh3k 7 points 1 year ago

I've had a couple conversations in which I expressed how surprised I was that he had been uncancelled from previous sexual assaults, just to do it all again.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The people apologising fall into 2 camps.

  1. Sex pests & misogynists. Many with their own legal run-ins. e.g. Andrew Tate is a rapist and sex trafficker and Elon Musk attempting to impregnate anyone including flight attendants.
  2. Conspiracy idiots who will believe their guru over reality. It must be some global conspiracy to silence him rather than the more obvious reason that he raped at least one woman and had inappropriate contact with others.
[–] AFKBRBChocolate 23 points 1 year ago

Definitely not one of those times anyone is thinking "Really? I never would have expected that from him."

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 year ago

I mean, when I imagine a sex predator, it's Russell Brand.

[–] chickenfish 9 points 1 year ago

At some point it suddenly occurred to me one as actually thinking about Leto. Still... Tho... Wasn't there something?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Sounds like it was an open secret in the productions he worked on that he was a sex pest. It makes me wonder how he managed to escape so long before allegations were made public. I watched the Dispatches documentary and the complaints all seemed credible and doubtless there are receipts if Brand is foolish enough to sue. Even footage of his own on-air demeanour around the same time was awful and worse in hindsight.

Whatever the truth to the allegations there is no doubt that Brand is a narcissist with an addictive personality and he uses people to get what he wants. He's been addicted to sex, alcohol, porn, and heroin. Conspiracy theories are his new fix. Don't be surprised if he finds Jesus next. Gotta chase that high.
