I'm the first to shit on Google, but this change was communicated so far in advance it really is on OP and his company. They could have been ready long ago.
It's like the people bitching about MS changing Azure AD to Entra and how they have to rewrite part of their automation flow. But the module to access Azure AD has been on the depreciation path for over a year.
Its a small business that I came into. Previous people didn't do there job very well and left very little documentation
They communicated this to all users of the old api repeatedly for like at least the last year. Why didn’t you fix this like months and months ago?
About 10 years ago I had just started at a company that had previously made Flash widgets (weather/sports/stocks) to put on your site. They had pivoted to JavaScript tools about three years before I joined the company, and had discontinued their Flash support a year earlier.
The very first conference call I had with a potential customer was actually someone who claimed to be losing billions of dollars because our Flash widgets didn't work anymore. They were livid that we'd stopped supporting them, and threatened to sue us if we didn't turn it back on.
The poor sales rep and I didn't know what to say, because she had started about a week before me and didn't even know we made them. I'm guessing they didn't sue because we never heard about it again.
tl;dr - Users are idiots.
I guess I wasn't on the mailing list? All I got was a weeks notice
If you have access to the analytics, you should have received several emails over the last year. Everyone of my coworkers with access and myself all got the emails.
The worst thing is that they haven't figured out how to update their help pages to reflect changes they make to their products in any kind of adequate manner.
Don't expect sympathy from the victims of google analytics. It failed on your side, and you cannot get it to work? Good. Good for humanity.
For some reason, thanks i needed that laugh this afternoon.
My GF is an analyst and she was showing me all of the ways the new API is going to piss off her firm’s clients with all of the changes. I won’t pretend to understand it. Excessive rounding making it difficult to get the resolution some clients expect? Something about midnight causing duplicate counts… there was a lot. Mainly it seemed like issue would be the major corpos being mad at the firm because the reporting can’t be exactly the same as it was before.
Google is a consumer products company. Tell yourself this when things arent working out with them.
