One of the biggest reasons might be, because "chonkers" can be considered an animal abuse, as overfeeding your pet is not healthy for said pet, and causes them to suffer from inability to live their life to the fullest, and most likely they will strain their internal organs to the point of failure. The knowledge of this has reduced the popularity of real life "chonkers", as people actually feel empathy towards animals, instead of considering them as cheap "entertainment".
Chonkers
Chonky cats (and other animals)
This is a community for posting pictures or memes involving chubby cats (also known as chonkers). Please keep in mind we do not condone pet obesity, and instead would like to help people who do have obese cats get them on a diet and help them lose weight and become healthier.
Agreed but the original Reddit community also had helpful links as a pinned post as to how you can make your cat healthier and put it on a diet
Still, the premise of such a community is the display of unhealthy cats, and it inarguably will encourage some people to encourage and continue unhealthy treatments of their cats.
Wouldn't all communities regardering overweight people/animals do those things?
There's lots of communities about appreciating/posting pictures of overweight people in sexual/nonsexual nature
I get that pets have no/little autonomy over their diet which makes it into a different issue.
I see it rather as an apppreciation in the moment despite their overweightness
I haven't thought too much about this so far, just some spontaneous thoughts.
This is the same mentality as the fashies wanting to remove all Gay content from the Internet because some kid might turn gay. Even though absolutely no one would choose to be gay let's be fucking honest.
I don't think anyone is looking at fat cats and going gee I need to overfeed mine for clout!. And if they were they're already crazy and that cat had no chance in hell.
Otherwise let's remove all fat humans off the internet too! Might encourage over eating tsk tsk.
I remember the first time I stumbled over that sub on r/all and posted a negative comment not unlike yours I got downvoted into oblivion because apparently every chonker poster was just about to save that cat's health.
Technically you can just post animals they look like a choker even at their healthy weight. Such as hippos, or even Pallas' cat
Some cats are just big naturally, grotesque is a matter of opinion.
Because this community was one of animal abuse and shouldn't exist/should be banned.
So what if they provide "helpful links" to help the obese animals. It's still glorifying them for shitty internet points.
A lot of fat people seem to be happy. I assume the same for fat pets.
People can choose how much they eat. Pets can't decide for themselves and will always eat if there is food in their bowl. For people, a lot of the times it's an addiction and will definitely lead to health issues, so even in that case it's something to worry about. Food brands occasionally need to present goals in order to reduce sugar, salt and fat in their products. Don't get fooled by appearance, pets need to be taken care of and the same goes for people.
At least in my experience, this isn't true for all pets. I ever only had one dog that ate all the food in her bowl no matter what. All the dogs and cats I've had besides that one, including the 2 dogs and cat I have now will eat until they're full, regardless if the bowl is empty, and then come back to it later.
Obese pets= abuse
What about a friendly pet house hippo?
