Creationists have lied about the science since the days of the Snopes trial. They've never stopped. All that changes is what form their lies take. They lie because their position is based on their various religions, and their religious truths take precedence to them over the actual truth. To a missionary, lying in order to convince a potential convert is a holy act.

We have all kinds in the US.

IMO Having discussions where disagrements are the norm, it is extremely hard to change minds. It takes a lot of effort and time so it is best when both parties just try to learn, from each other, while being informative and understanding on both sides.
