We’re being too harsh on Sheriff Bob Norris. This poor guy spent 20 years at the LA County Sheriff’s Department, practicing Compton justice before moving to Idaho. He has only had 4 years as sheriff to hone his hatred of women, and is under the strain of a defamation lawsuit for pointing at a local woman and accusing her of giving blowjobs and photographing child pornography at the library.

Since then, police continued to investigate the incident, including by reviewing video recordings that showed what happened before they arrived. In light of “all new evidence and video related to the event,” city prosecutors will dismiss the citation.
Meanwhile, the city revoked the business license for LEAR Asset Management “for violating Coeur d’Alene city ordinances regarding security agencies and agents.”
Though Coeur d’Alene city code requires security agents to wear uniforms “clearly marked” with the word “security,” the guards were in plainclothes, with no visible identifiers that they were security.
It's quaint of them to dismiss the misdemeanor battery citation issued to Dr. Borrenpohl for defending herself. I suspect the City of Coer d'Alene will be intimately involved in in the law suit.

Three unidentified men assault me, I'm shooting. It would be damned hard to get me to draw, get me into a situation I can't get out of, but this is clearly such a case.
(If you carry, or even have a gun in your home, you damned well need to understand the self-defense laws in your jurisdiction. They're often more restrictive than either liberals or conservatives think. It ain't the free-for-all either side believes.)
This reminds me of a story idea I had for a novel.
The police of a fantasy world are enacting blatant brutality and are low on accountability. A separate agency headed by a heroic character announces that some faction of terrorists has stolen a set of uniforms for these officers. They further clarify that citizens can identify genuine officers in this way:
- Officers will always identify themselves by name upon request
- Officers will never hide their face
- Officers will never attack citizens without being first threatened
Otherwise, citizens are encouraged to use weapons to protect themselves from unidentified men posing as police. (The obvious conclusion there is; this other agency stole the uniforms themselves and threw them away, just to provoke that change in behavior)
Yeah, kill people!
