These were his loyalists. He purged the career staff from leadership/management positions in these offices, and replaced them with people like these 6 prosecutors (conservative credentials like clerking for Scalia). The leadership in the Public Integrity Section got forced out (either resigned or got reassigned to an immigration task force), so the leaders who remained were specifically appointed by Trump.
The US Attorneys generally all resign upon a change of administration, unless asked to stay, and this Danielle Sassoon was appointed acting US Attorney by Trump. She's a conservative Republican.
They were going to get fired anyway. It was already in the works. Resigning keeps their hands clean of this mess and likely protects them from some forms of retaliation. They've already been threatened to be investigated by their replacements. The US Attorney General is Trump's personal lawyer. There is no way these people would not have been booted.
This PBS article goes into the punishments they were looking at for sticking to their duty. OP's article goes more into why they were incorrect on not dropping charges despite the pressure being put on them.
The people who resigned weren't being weak. They were doing their duty to uphold the law, and they got thrown out. The resignations are just a F- you on their way out.
They were being weak. Republicans don't care, they're just happy that a spot opened up they can fill. They need to stop giving Republicans shit for free and make them fight for it, instead of just giving them our country.
They resisted the bad orders they were given, they publicly talked about the improper things they were being asked to do, they called out everyone doing it to them, and they said they had enough evidence to convict Adams of not only what he is currently charged with, but also had enough to bring new charges, despite possible evidence of him destroying more evidence.
To me it sounds they did what they could within boundries of the law, which they are there to uphold, up until the last moment they could. They're also pointing out that the charges have not been dropped, just put on hold and how that can be used to blackmail Adams into complying with more criminal acts.
What do you feel they should have done that they didn't do?
Make them fire her?
From what I can find, it seems that just brings more unnecessary hardship on themselves for no benefit to anyone.
Getting fired costs them their earned benefits, their unemployment benefits, insurance for them and their families, being fired makes it harder to get another federal position, and fighting it has legal costs they'd need to absorb. With people getting barred from their places of work, it doesn't seem to make sense to think they can't just lock you out when you go home anyway. With everyone above them being part of team Trump, they're just spiting themselves. They already spilled the beans on everyone.
They've put up more resistance than almost anyone else has so far. They're lawyers, not revolutionaries. Their responsibility is technically to be anything but revolutionary.
Is this the mayor who slandered Luigi and infringed his right to a fair trial?
Yes, it is the former cop and "tough on crime" aka police attacks on racialized people mayor.
Why are they stepping down instead of making an actual stand and forcing their hand? Just making it easier for them. This is exactly what they want.
I agree. I understand if you're a meager little underling, but if you're in charge of investigating, then you need to take a stand and use the power you wield to stop or slow them down.
Now make a law firm and get Luigi acquitted.
I wouldn’t blame anyone resigning voluntarily over this. Can you imagine the energy, dedication and countless hours they’d have put into building this case only to have it thrown away on a whim?! It would be close to impossible to stay motivated in any job after something like this. Honestly, good on them for prioritizing their safety and mental health over a thankless job.
This is how the Republicans are really gutting the government - by breaking the spirits of the most dedicated employees. This regime is going to be the biggest shock to US government since Reagan and the American people will be suffering from its impacts for decades.
thrown away on a whim?!
It wasn't thrown away on a whim, it was dismissed without prejudice. It was transformed into a gun held to the corrupt mayor's head so that the Trump administration can extract as much value as possible from him while he still has some power.
In my opinion, it's even more fucked up. Double corruption - corruption charges put on hold so that so the defendant can be extorted.

Huh, it was working but yeah now seems to be broken, not sure what happened there, but thanks for the heads up
