There have been plenty of cases of ref corruption in EU football, not sure what makes the NFL so special for this to be "preposterous", and I find saying that to be what is insulting. Especially given what I've been seeing in the NFL together with all the gambling adverts.

I don't think it's hit the news for the NFL yet, but other sports are catching their refs gambling on games. It 100% is happening in the NFL though.
A better word would be "stupid", but that's what social media algorithms do to people. They make you believe stupid things.
There are several teams with more accepted penalties than the Chiefs, including the Bills and Vikings. If the refs are intervening on anyone's behalf, those are the two likely culprits.
Occam's Razor would suggest that football (and fast-paced sports in general) just aren't easy to ref and mistakes happen.
What if it's not the overall volume of penalties, but instead penalties that benefit them at exceedingly important moments /shrug
I'd say that the sheer volume of possessions and plays is generally going to prove you wrong. It takes a shit-ton of failure throughout a football game for a single call to matter. Look at the Bills in the AFC Championship for a great example. They basically wasted the entire first quarter.
A first down on a stalled drive from a bogus call has the same impact as a turn over. Turnovers are a huge indicator of success in the NFL.
A single penalty can turn a punt into a scoring drive. Just a few of these can easily lead to a 7-14 point swing.
